For your final point, that’s not what that means. It’s not “observation” that collapses the wave function, at least as you’re understanding the word. It’s any interaction that requires the information to be known. That includes any particle interactions. It’s not consciousness that matters. When we “make a measurement” it’s only recording information of an interaction. It doesn’t actually matter that we record it, only that there was an interaction. There is zero metaphysical consciousness mumbo-jumbo involved.
I can recommend syncthing. If it’s a file you want to keep updated between the two devices, it’s great and easy to set up. I use it for my password manager database.
KDE Connect works even on Windows supposedly. I’ve had great experience with it on Ubuntu, Fedora, and Garuda.

Yeah, both have pros and cons. I have Steam installed through pacman and flatpak also. For me I have the Flatpak version because it contains its own version of glibc. This mostly doesn’t matter, except I play Squad and it’s doing something with it’s anti-cheat that isn’t supported in the most recent versions of glibc, so I use the Flatpak version for Squad only.
Flatpak is essentially a more controlled environment. It will contain everything it needs to work, which is good for ensuring it works but bad because you’ll have duplicates. It mostly doesn’t matter which you use, but occasionally it does.
I would say Amazon is a fitting replacement target.
I love these comments. If you need to use the command line (the largest argument people have against Linux) why are people still arguing to stay on Windows? Hell, Linux you don’t even need the terminal if you don’t want to use it and choose the right distro.
(I recognize that for schools and offices, people don’t have a choice. These students were probably on a personal laptop though, so they could have a choice. The issue is Windows comes as default and no one actually makes a choice. They don’t choose Windows. They just have Windows.)
That’s not Linux doing that. It’s the demons in your hardware trying to escape. They normally don’t cause too many issues luckily, but if you don’t close the portals occasionally they can take over your system.
Generally the same people. I’m sure some changed over time. It started as them making levels for the next Serious Sam, but they turned out to be really good puzzles mechanics and levels and the decided to make a puzzle game instead.
It’s crazy that the people behind Serious Sam made The Talos Principle. A crazy action focused FPS to an intellectual puzzle game focused on exploring philosophy and what it means to be human.
A friend brought up some Ubisoft game (that I’m not that interested in) that is exclusive to their launcher. I was 90% sure this was an indication there was no hope for Linux there. I googled it and they apparently had already promised they would be strongly supporting Linux. A shitty company like Ubisoft is supporting it. I think we’re very close.
I’d be very curious to see the hours played on games by OS. The last data I saw of probable usage percent had Linux at 4%, but I’d bet a large number of Windows and Mac machines are mostly just web browser machines. I would suspect Linux users are more likely to be gamers as they’ve already shown more interest in technology.
I don’t know what percent we need to be mainstream, but we’re on a good trgectory. If we can manage to hit 10% I doubt it could be overlooked anymore. Also, every person who swaps over is one more person who’s likely to push others to swap. It’s a slippery slope. We’ll get there.
Well, it will be slightly different. AMD releases open source drivers. That’s why it works so much better. Nvidia releases proprietary ones and let’s the community handle the open source ones. To the end user, there probably won’t be much difference eventually, but it does hurt progress so they’ll always be slightly behind where they could be.
Writing your own internet protocol is a good idea but you shouldn’t stop there. You need to run your own internet cables too to make sure it does what you want and isn’t controlled by someone else.

Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend this option. Maybe for some basic question, but don’t follow its directions for anything technical and absolutely don’t enter any commands it gives you unless you know what they do. It makes stuff up all the time. It’ll sound confident, but if you’re a new user you don’t know enough to know what it’s telling you to do.
For that matter, don’t enter any commands you see online without looking at it first. You can’t trust everyone.
Maybe Linamp, Lamp, or Gamp would be better? Kamp for a KDE version if the name isn’t already used.
Both of those will have worse performance, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t work. Just whenever it needs to grab more data it’ll have to go to the USB to get it, which is slow. You could load the game that’s stored on the disk already (this will require more effort and knowledge than installing Steam and it installing it locally on your Linux drive), so that’d be better, but the system data will be slow. If you have a lot of RAM it’ll reduce how often data is grabbed, so it’ll reduce the issues after boot.
