IsoSpandy@lemm.eeto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Amazing, every word of what you just said was wrong6·2 months agoI run arch. I use vanilla arch (btw) it’s the best. But that’s because I am ready to put in the time. Not because it is inherently better.

Don’t fucking install arch based distros. Just install Mint or Fedora plasma and be done.
Zero fucking setup after install. The fedora workstation has so much pre installed and configured I cannot explain. Only gripe with fedora is the media codec bullshit because obviously AMERICAN CAPTALISM.

I have a RTX 3050 mobile with Intel cpu laptop. So far… Everything works fine on fedora and arch. I haven’t installed Debian based on it however

I was having trouble with NVIDIA while using mint early on and decided to switch to Fedora. Maybe try that once. Fedora has better defaults for nvidia.
Use the KDE Plasma spin btw. See if it works.
LFS is the only true distro

IsoSpandy@lemm.eeOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•I just distro hopped after using a distro almost a year. Is it normal?3·3 months agoI had tried opensuse tumbleweed and absolutely loved the way it did things, my perfect balance between fedora and arch, but there were Teo problems that I couldn’t get over.
- Zypper is slow.
- I couldn’t get it to do parallel downloads packages.
But it’s a great distro nonetheless.
Also it has a similar problem with fedora that arch doesn’t. VIDEO CODECS. I don’t understand how the USA messes with my ability to play a video and I am seriously annoyed by it.

IsoSpandy@lemm.eeto Linux@lemmy.ml•Fedora and Linux Mint having no display output unless on safe graphics.1·6 months agoAfter booting in, switch to a tty, then start the de from there, so like I use plasma so I execute plasma-wayland. Check if that works, if so, then the problem lies with the login manager (sddm or gdm). If not post the error log and I will check if I can understand what’s wrong.
That truly is a shitshow
Man Microsoft plus was awesome. I used to stare at the foucault pendulum for hours when I was a kid.
I would disagree. I feel xp was the last good windows. After that it all went to shit.
- Fedora
- Arch
- Tumbleweed
- Debian
- NixOs
Man i remember. I have 16GB And running windows I would run out of ram so fast. Now on linux, I feel like I am unable to push the usage beyond 8GB in my regular workflow. I also switched to neovim from vscode, Firefox from Chrome and now only when I compile rust does my ram see any usage peaks.
What’s wrong with Wayland? I get the hate for systemd, even though I love it dearly, but I get the hate. But what’s wrong with Wayland? It’s amazing as far as I have used it. I started using with when Fedora 40 shipped plasma 6.
IsoSpandy@lemm.eeto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Remember back when Ubuntu put ads in the dash? I do (~2014)53·8 months agoThat was the first time I tried Linux with the free and open thing. I didn’t know much back then and when I saw the ads, I was like… Ooohhh this is ad supported crap. Nope… Not at all
Fucking distro kept me away from my spirit penguin for 2 years before I realized it was ubuntu’s fault.
Actually good for the developer. He is doing it out of his passion and faith in OSS. What more should we want of him? The dude is already a hero.
