Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-Americans, how and what do the news and social media in your country portray the US?2·10 days agoI have a Canadian friend who only gets a small bit of news about what goes on in America and downplays anyone who lives here as overreacting when we say shit is getting worse. Our friend group helps keep him more informed, but since he has family in the middle east he also has the mindset of “things can get a lot worse”.
I blocked pretty freely on Twitter till I left the site around when I got the Bluesky invite. I still block freely on there, but not Reddit or Lemmy. I didn’t on Reddit cause there was a cap on how many accounts you can have blocked and Lemmy doesn’t handle blocks in a way I like so I just don’t bother. I like being able to curate my experience and the experience others that interact with me have. I got no energy for shit stains so blocking is easier than constantly knowing they exist.
This is why I use the block button and block lists frequently on Bluesky and not at all here. Actually does its job there.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?6·1 month agoAs someone who has never ridden a train (unless you count the thing they use to get around the Atlanta airport or the slow ones at a theme park or zoo), I wouldn’t be shocked if I ended up doing something similar. I just think trains are neat and would love to ride one someday.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•On a scale of 0 to 10, how good are you at technology?4·1 month agoProbably around 4-6. I know the basics and can do a few other things after using resources from Google/YouTube, but there’s times where I stare at a problem and feel like I became my parents who can’t figure out how to make a window take up the whole screen.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how far out of your way do you go to help wild animals each day on average?2·1 month agoMy dad likes to feed wild racoons and I help him with that. He puts some dog food and a couple other things out for them and they come up every night to get some and hang out for a bit before returning home
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which job(s) would you refuse to accept regardless of how good the pay is?2·1 month agoAnything public facing or anything that has me carrying around a gun. Both are absolute no-gos in my mind.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever cried because of a video game?6·2 months agoAs a kid I cried out of frustration while playing Dragon Ball Z Budokai during the Super Saiyan Goku vs 100% Full Power Frieza fight. It was just a massive difficulty spike that I’d constantly struggle with. My mom would make fun of me for it for a long time.
For anything more recent, I did cry in Danganronpa V3 at the end of the fourth trial. It was the only time my favorite character in one of these games died and the reason it happened sent me into a batch of sadness that lasted a few days where I just refused to keep playing the game.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How diverse are your sources of information?3·2 months agoMostly just YouTube, Reddit, Bluesky, and now Lemmy. If something interests me I’ll dig more into it on other sites.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•is Lemmy the most popular 'Reddit Alternative'?9·2 months agoI like Bluesky a lot, but it’s more a Twitter replacement than Reddit. Harder to talk to dedicated communities for things on there. Like if want show recommendations, I’d rather go to a community/subreddit that has 92k members than asking the 80 followers I have on Bluesky (only like 10 or less aren’t bots I’m pretty sure or would even see my post) with the small chance a couple non-followers would see it and maybe comment.
If you dig into that guy’s comment history, he wants the Nazi bar.
