I got help here on Lemmy to identify what this is. It turns out it’s ice, that forms on dead wood but not the bark and is initiated by a fungus that lives there. Very interrsring reading

There were loads that day but had never seen them before. Apparently they need quite specific conditions to grow. I took some more pictures
