Does anyone use it? https://plasma-bigscreen.org/
Can you install it on a running system or do you have to install it on metal to test it?
One of the pages on the site you’ve linked mentions Debian having Plasma Bigscreen in the package repo, so I imagine you can just download it on anything that runs the right instruction set. (armv7, amd64, etc. I am not sure what the package is built for.)
I’ve got it installed on a Debian 12 box I’m using as an htpc. It’s works pretty nicely.
I tried it and I don’t think it’s usable. the applications it has are quite frankly garbage. and it overall feels janky to control. not great IMO
Are u trying to install on x86 or ARM? ARM has images u can use. As for x86 I didn’t find distro with out of the box bigscreen configured, however there are AUR recipes - makes it easy to use it on Manjaro.
I believe you can install it on anything that supports KDE. PostmarketOS has it as an environment option. I’ve not tried it yet either, but I’m interested in a Linux TV Box alternative as well.
I mean, Kodi (formerly XBMC) has existed for aeons now…
I’m going to find out if I can install it on MX debian with KDE when I get home.
Use kodi
Kodi is kinda klunky and old fashioned imo
You can change the skin. I use osmc which is has a much nicer skin by default
I couldn’t get any kodi extensions working… Do people still use this?
Yes, it my primary way of getting TV on my TV. I use jellyfin for other platforms but kodi is nice because you can control it with your phone and it has a nice TV guide
