  • I don’t use it much since I’ve already got it active on the apps I wanted it for, but on Samsung’s Galaxy Store there is an app I’ve never found an alternative to anywhere from my limited searching: Sound Assistant.

On desktop/laptop, turning off individual app/program sounds is super easy, but this is literally the only app I’ve ever seen that allows you to turn off the sound for individual apps on android. Don’t know if other versions of android from other brands or android 14 has that feature natively, but it’s a feature I wish was native to all versions of android regardless of which large brand has made their own alterations to android.

A minor problem, though, as I assume most people probably don’t give a rats ass about this.

  • better security for the entire world

The moment Linux takes over as a dominant desktop/laptop OS we’ll start seeing a metric ton of the windows hackers follow suit to attack us. We’ll end up in a situation where they’ll probably go after some random kernel bugs that nobody else.has found yet or just don’t think are critical/exploitable. Or they’ll just attack the biggest, most widely used distros, going after people using them and any derivative distro similar enough for their malicious tools to work on it.

In general though, it would be a good thing for Linux to become a lot more prominent in the desktop/laptop market for general users. Especially since I imagine thanks to Linux being open source, people would be able to stop these malicious actors from doing damage much quicker (even though I imagine the majority of normal people switching over would almost never update because they’re used to forced updates and not having to do it themselves).

All jokes aside, after hearing that EOL is coming to Win10 this October, I have decided over the summer, before fall quarter is in and I’m back to start my 2nd year of college, that I would definitely be taking everything I need/want off of my desktop and switch to something like mint or MX because of how simple and user friendly they’ve been to me as someone who’s only been using Linux for maybe 2-3 years. Only things I would I need are dedicated time and personal drive to pull that off and a new external drive for storing all my files.

  • I couldn’t think of many less visited sites I usually go to often, but coalregion(dot)com is an interesting site I found using this Wiby search engine a long time ago. It’s a site about a region in Pennsylvania. They have a section for recipes supposedly from that region along with a section for words/slang from that regions past. They got other things, but the dictionary and recipes interest me more than the other parts.

  • For listening, it’s either on Auxio on my phone (files on device over streaming), a few yt playlists that have some of my favorite songs (some downloaded, some not). That, or I have a few songs on NewPipe history that aren’t saved anywhere else.

On my desktop, I use either Strawberry Music Player for my audio files and VLC for CDs (I have less than 10, but that’s besides the point). Some of those CDs for some reason will just shut off after a few minutes into certain songs if I try to play it on the '92 Sony CDMan. I think it’s just an issue with the CDs more than the CD player itself.

As for how I discover new music, it’s usually from yt recommendations based on what I listen to, whatever catches my eyes. That or maybe it’s music I find on OpenGameArt or maybe I’m looking up something like a certain vocaloid song on VocaDB or yt or on rare occasion NicoVideo and finding a cover of it or another song from the original producer.

    Edit: Sony Discman, not CdMan

  • The college club I’m in made mochi today. Never actually made it before.

All we did was use rice flower, water, and sugar as the core ingredients. I believe something like 6 spoons of the flour and water, and 1 spoon of water. Knead until mixed, until it’s like Play-Doh according to the club instructor. Then make 6 mini balls, finally cover and heated in a microwave for a minute.

Was pretty messy and at various times felt like I was rolling mashed potatoes in my hand, but was delicious when it was done. Especially with soybean powder.
