Portal and Portal 2 are my go to tests for if a machine qualifies as “an computer”. Basically, if it can run those, it’s probably good enough to be grandmas facebook machine. Might have to toss an ssd into it (exactly what I did with an old core2duo hp pavilion), but generally I find it to be a good rule of thumb.

Plus it gives me an excuse to play Portal when I test a machine :P

Surprised no one has said it, but Minecraft. I love it as much now as I did when I was 12. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it, especially if you start playing with mods. Then there’s servers such as Hypixel which for all intents and purposes are an entirely separate game in and of themselves.

I’m sure part of it is nostalgia, some of my fondest gaming memories were playing Minecraft with friends, but I still find it to be an excellent way to relax.

(Tangentially related, anyone else remember when waiting 3 months for 1.2.5 > 1.3 was an absurdly long update time for the game? Different times.)

Both Intel and AMD iGPUs are starting to get insane, especially AMD. Weren’t not there yet on the laptop front, but the 8600G is perfectly serviceable for 1080p/60fps gaming on the iGPU. Doubley so for any classic esport title.

StreetComplete is the one I use, although there’s a handful. It’s on both the play store and Fdroid

I think the point is politics in a nation can change at any time, and as such you may lose the domain/no longer feel safe supporting that nation. Just because they wouldn’t now doesn’t mean they wouldn’t in the future. (Especially with how well AfD is polling and how much CDU/CSU seem to be starting to cooperate)

My friends base model kia soul from 2013 has less issues with gaps in the body and awful craftsmanship with regards to interior trim than the two model 3s that are in my family. The same has been true for quite literally every car I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned real pieces of shit. It’s also been in the shop less despite having been around an extra 7 years.
