  • So much fun, good memories with the offroad group I fell in with during the Forum era of the internet, some of us still keep in touch.

The group had people from around the US, and even though I lived in a place like you are now there were opportunities for road trips to meet up with & go with waaaay more experienced people.

I was NOT mechanically inclined but made Incredible meals camping (sushi, smoked pulled pork, bbq tri tip beef, etc.) so I traded that for help installing mods & fixing broken shit.

The group also went to the national meet up, but we never went on “official” runs, just went on our own and to make shenanigans & meet up.

Check out (your vehicle) 4x4 groups and start there!

  • Look at the long term benefits/advancement and opportunities in the career field.

As a personal account, my first position out of college there were McDonald’s employees making more than me, however 3 years there and that was the last time I worked as an hourly employee and moved up to management, also the company I worked for was very prestigious so the opportunities to move and work overseas was available.

Granted, the 3 years was a goddamn grind…

  • That’s an opinion. Everyone in entitled to one.

But let me shed some light, the LGBTQ community that is outspoken needs to be to get to those “in the back of the room”.

In my opinion, they are doing just what suffregets, african americans and other marginalized people have done within the media scope of their time.

In time, their rights and privileges should be part of the mainstream so you won’t (shouldn’t) even think about it, it’s just another niche of humanity that binds us all together.

I, personally, don’t want to hear about someone’s lord and savior, but I live in a society that some people do.

  • For me I decided young that I needed a career that would take me places so I could have life experiences and maybe get a few bucks.

I applied to everything everywhere while I was working and always thought “it may suck, but at least it will be different.”

There are better systems, but IMO I was never able to find or capitalize on them so i needed to focus on what my current goals were keeping in the back of my mind that this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Be aware that your peers that do amazing work and get promotions, get that easy job or just get a lucky break only affect your life negatively if you let it.

Positive “coping mechanisms” help when dealing with stress (exercise routine, yoga, whateverworks for you), when negative coping mechanisms hurt.

I’ve been lucky enough to live and work in some amazing places, and 35 years later we have finally found a place we want to “settle”.

  • Easy! Turns out smoking not only is a slow kilñer but it raises your stomachs acidic level so that if you have other stressers (high stress job, no regular meals, no breaks, drink to excess, etc) it’s easier for your body to turn on itself and pop a hole in your stomach (aka a bleeding ulcer).

which then can lead to a moderate (week+) hospital stay, plus special diet for a month, couple weeks rehab, and medication for a time.

Oh, as a bonus your body will then be subjected to all the fun withdrawals: nicotine, caffeine, alcohol. All cool things when you’re young and indestructible.

Needless to say I haven’t had a cigarette in over 26yrs.
