Huh. The person was off-frame. And I’m pretty sure i retroactively chose a color for the ball.
I think I might have a black-and-white imagination.

I’m lucky enough to be middle class, ever since landing a somewhat boring job that pays, like, 75% more than my old one, all in web development. I still can’t afford luxuries like a car or a house, but hey, I have a nice electric bike! And I can pay someone to clean my apartment every two weeks. It costs, like, 7% of my income, but I know I wouldn’t be able to keep it clean otherwise. Health issues suck.
I have poor friends who don’t earn much more than the minimum wage. They often complain about the price of groceries, and say things like “I’ve wanted this game so bad for so long but I don’t have any money left this month”. Each time I’m reminded of how thankful I am that I don’t really worry about prices anymore at the grocery store. And it makes me sad that we hadn’t such bad financial priorities that we have people WITH jobs who have trouble paying for food. Imagine those who can’t find a job!
There’s also my dad, as well as a friend couple of mine, who are rich. The friends, it’s crazy. They each have a car, PLUS a special summer car, they buy Dungeons and Dragons books on a monthly basis, they go on international trips yearly, they go camping in an RV, they’re always doing activities that cost a lot of money, they go to the restaurant a lot, etc. My dad is also on an airplane on a yearly basis.
It makes my head spin to just think about the sheer money. But none of these people are evil my rich friend is definitely more left-wing than anything else, and he’s a very smart person. They were just both blessed with luck, energy and talent, I guess. My dad is just a normal near-boomer. Neither better nor worse than the rest of them. He just got a high-paying factory job and had the energy to keep going.
I’m reminded of those people whenever I’m tempted to put all rich people in the same basket.
Car-centric urban design.
All the time. It’s basically the only way I open the Start menu. And I use Windows key shortcuts like Win+Alt+K really often.
I used to wonder why we were in such a hurry to phase out 3G networks entirely.
Now I know.
I think you’re going for malice a bit fast when incompetence and negligence seem like pretty likely culprits to me.
Shoko sounds like something you’d like. It tracks that you watch and auto-sorts your downloads into folders that your library can easily work with. Works well with Jellyfin and Plex.
They’re still not done pushing their new, actually good, version to stable, though, and the same applies to the docs related to it. So I’d recommend going with the Daily version and joining the Discord for help with getting it to work.
Janky to install every time, but it’s a godsend when it works.
Jacob from TechLinked mentioned it in a video.
Oh yeah I had a few.
When you’re born, Pantone checks your skin color and charges you. You need to get a license before you get tanned or they fine you.
I’m guessing you’ve already tried, but just in case: would dictation work for you?
I loved my Samsung Galaxy Q. But now that I’m used to gesture typing, I wouldn’t go back. It’s much faster than hitting keys individually with my thumbs.
One thing I do miss though is how quick it was to select/copy/paste.
I started dating someone and then realized pretty fast I didn’t like him that way.
The dude was already pretty depressed as a baseline, and I feel like giving him hope and then taking it away like that has dropped him pretty deep into negativity.
I’m a big fan of fake brands/products in anime. I don’t know why, but they bring me joy.
Interesting! I didn’t know there was a movie. The version I saw on stage was even more over-the-top (very stereotypical gay coded)
Reviewers were really happy they swapped the optical one for an ultrasonic one on the latest Pixel.
Cheering because they gave us the slightly less bad version of something terrible.
No one asked for this, you dimwits!
My TV is the LG CX. It’s cool in some ways, but overall I’m not too impressed. Some days I think maybe I should’ve splurged and gotten a Sony.
Hmm, then the issue I could see if going by EQ is if there are several voices at the same time (say, background characters taking indistinctly behind a conversation), depending on how crap the mix is, trying to enhance voices might enhance the background ones as well.
That’s an edge case, but a more common one is when there’s music with sounds in the same frequency range as human voices over a scene and the music competes with the voices. Then playing with the EQ might distort the music in such a way that it still kills the voices while making the music inaccurate.
That’s why I really wish we had several channels whose volumes can be individually changed like in video games. That would be the ultimate tool to adjust things. Even if you don’t know anything about what the hell “hertz” means and equalizers confuse you, you could do a lot without distorting anything. And if you do understand how equalizers work, you could combine both to get a really fine-tuned experience.
The music tip isn’t bad, but on my TV the answer is “you can’t really do that” lol. There are various ways to distort a piece with sound profiles, but none that I know of to keep it accurate.
What I usually do is always use subtitles, and switch between “OLED Surround Pro”, “Standard” and “Game” to see which sounds the best. Then if a movie/show stands out as having incredibly bad sound (ahem Christopher Nolan ahem) I either bust out the French dub or “enjoy” the tinny sounds of “Clear Voice IV”.
My TV is insulting like that. It technically has an EQ, but it makes no perceivable difference no matter what I do in it.
But assuming it worked, wouldn’t doing that strictly with sound frequencies cause issues? Like, okay, most voices are louder because I boosted their frequency, but now that one dude with a super low voice is quieter, plus any music in the show is distorted. Or something like that.
I wish they just provided separate tracks that you could control. One track for dialogue, one track for music, one track for sound effects, and maybe one track for less important voices. Then let us adjust the volume of each. That would help so much. And they basically HAVE to do it at some point in the process anyway if they want multilingual dubbing to work.
Speaking of dubbing: recently I’ve taken to watching more content dubbed in French strictly because it’s almost always intelligible, contrary to the aRtIsT aCcUrAtE volumes of the original. Pretty sad that I have to do that though.
Ugh, don’t remind me of how the transition to LEDs was handled. Should we use yellow LEDs to make it non-obnoxious? Nah, just blast everyone’s eyes with cool white LEDs.
Jacob from TechLinked mentioned it. I had already dropped Reddit because the app sucks.
