Android@lemmy.world•GrapheneOS is finally ready to break free from Pixels, and it may never look backEnglish
2·14 days agoThink I saw them respond that they were aiming for last half of 2026 to 2027 for the new phones.
Sorry for not being able to answer until now. From what i can summarize a dGPU seems useless for my case. It also seems like a 11th gen i5 is the way. I wonder, does RAM speeds matter? If i can get a mini or micro ATX board and hook up an i5 with a good amount of DDR4 RAM i think i can get away cheaply. Will probably start off with a small M.2 and see if i can hook up my HDD later.
Also which i5 would you suggest? I havent been on intel since my 4690K so i have no idea whats “good” or “enough”.

11·5 months agoAnd even so, if you require ancient drivers its probably even wonkier to get them working on Windows
Perfect website, thanks for posting, i will look it up 🙏
Good tips. I mostly use it for YouTube and watching movies on Jellyfin. I already have a a PiHole set up so thanks for posting the domains, will make sure those are blocked properly.
And I will also look into rooting the WebOS, blocking the YouTube ads would be a godsend 🙏

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are these specs good? I want to buy my son a gaming PC
20·9 months agoImo 16GB is a bare minimum today, i always recommend 32GB which is what i use myself. I agree 64GB is a bit overkill but the price for a prebuilt is good and the specs are banger.

Linux@lemmy.ml•[Rant] I swear to fucking god. Windows is harder to use than Linux. Have any of you ever USED Windows lately? Holy fuck.
4·2 years agoAs someone who helped friends/family build PC gaming rigs multiple times last year (2023) I understand what you’re coming from W11 installer is pure dogshit.
Tbh tho, my dad always hated new Windows versions because he didn’t want to learn a new UI/UX, which I fine, but the windows experience isnt that hard to learn, even if it is different. Same thing with Linux, if you use GNOME/KDE/i3/hyprland/sway/<insert any DE/WM here> for the first time it won’t be easy to find all of the settings either.
But the W11 installer in particular sucks ass. There is so many restrictions that try to prevent you from even installing it. The one rescue for me was downloading the Rufus USB ISO tool and letting it download the W11 installer itself and apply patches which removed all the ridiculous restrictions.
I mean, you can even rub that shit in Virtual box if you want. My GF is literally running it on “unsupported hardware” according to Microsoft but windows updates and everything post-install is completely functional.
Only reason Mictorsoft Philips wants the restrictions is to have a tighter grip on the ecosystem and limit end consumers from installing it themselves and pushing that part to other companies or retailers which they can buy finished products (laptops etc) from instead of licenses.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What recent video game do you have buyer remorse for?
1·2 years agoUpdate on this, devs have “kinda” found a fix but need to do large scale testing. They have said that they will release a separate beta branch on steam to opt-in to if you want to try the fixed fps issues.
I’m not super into the whole sphere here. But as you mentioned the Pi I thought I might chime in. I just ordered a Pi 5, 8GB RAM and 2-3x effective speed of the Pi 4.
I’d youre looking for more powerful hardware in this format the Rockx 5 and Orange Pi 5 are alternatives that go up to 16GB RAM.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What recent video game do you have buyer remorse for?
2·2 years agoI feel like Elden Ring takes more of the Dark Souls aspects here. With that I mean that they just drop you in to explore and figure it out yourself. I understand your point though, it can feel ridiculous to go head first blindly in to a boss arena not knowing what to expect, but the satisfaction of figuring it out and beating it is something else.
Still though, this is not everyone’s cup of tea. I enjoyed the game, but never finished it. And I don’t think I ever will.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What recent video game do you have buyer remorse for?
5·2 years agoEnshrouded. I’m on a 5600X and a 6800XT and no matter the settings or reported FPS I feel like I’m running on 30-40fps. Also for some reason the distant LODs look like garbage, nothing like the gameplay I’ve seen in review videos.
Devs confirmed it was a bug with the camera but they did not know what caused it. Engine is entirely in-house so hopefully they fix it soon.
The only thing I managed to care about so far was building a nice cave home with a huge great hall and ruining the scenery by building a giant Peter Griffin pixel art outside.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Just finished setting up my GNOME desktop. Am I doing this right?
17·2 years agoCan you post neofetch?
My fiance always tells me how much she hates me complaining about things and not doing anything to improve it, and i think that’s a fair point. She has had to continuously tend for herself, fighting health care, education system and society to get by. And that really made me understand that complaining without doing anything is both priveleged and stupid. I have more respect towards others than trying to force Linux down their throats, but just complaining and ignoring a solution, even if all the circumstances line up perfectly, is just dumb. Complaining is justified, not doing anything or pretending you can’t is not. That being said, the Linux community is obnoxious and, in many cases, has the worst case of superiority complex, although i do believe we have gotten way better at that and are way more welcoming now than before.
