Governments are pretty damn inefficient and tend to waste a lot of money because of the process and bureaucracy.

I wish you would take a look at how government works in places like Scandinavia and much of Western Europe. Their universal healthcare systems are very efficient and cost-effective.

Other than politics and gone-wild ideology, there’s no reason the US couldn’t do the same.

Yeah, Colorado (along with the New England states) is one of few places in the US where rural does not necessarily mean red.

This can be very hard, especially if you’re in the US where “getting something checked out” can be excessively expensive and cost prohibitive. Shelling out $100 to go see a doc for something that’s not an emergency is not an option for many people.

Unfortunately, it seem like those in power are interested in changing that and many people are not voting for candidates who want to change it. So, here we are.

As someone who has taken dumps in mansions in both the state of Georgia and the French Riviera, I agree. Costs a lot more in the French Riviera, though.

Children don’t decide for themselves. If you’re a father, you have responsibilities to your child. Risking your life in this way affects the child in a profound way, especially if you slip and die. That’s not ok.

If I see something in a store and think it looks cool or useful, I’ll normally just go home and think about it. I will usually decide that it’s just junk that I don’t need or want. If I really do want it, it will still be there later.

I have a 7-day rule to avoid impulse-buying. When I decide that I want something that’s not a necessity, I go wait for seven days. Usually, the need or desire is gone by then. If the desire is still there, I trust that I actually want the item or service, and I go ahead and buy it.

Every now and then, an item I want is on sale for only a short time. I still apply the 7-day rule, but I don’t buy at the higher price if I still want it and the sale is gone.

Saves me a good deal of money.

I happen to also have an EU citizenship. Move to the EU.

So, basically, if you live in the US, get ready for excessive medical bills or begin the search for a way to move to another developed country if you want to survive financially.

If you’re in the US, you’re screwed. If you’re in Europe, you can go to the social services office and they’ll set you up in an apartment and get you on a path to a job or education.

First off, I’d try to find as much balance and joy as possible now. Don’t wait for retirement. None of us know if we’ll even be around at that point.

I also make sure to vote for people who want more work/life balance and more universal public services. Vacation time, family and parental leave, universal healthcare, affordable education, etc. Those are all things that free you mind to think about life and not just the basic necessities and surviving.

Taxation (also unlikely)

I think this is the most feasible way, and it work relatively well in other Western countries than the US. They still have billionaires, but fewer due to higher taxation. If put in place through referendum, it also creates a basis for societal approval of stripping very wealthy people of their excess wealth, lowing the risk of widespread revolt.

If they really find out that they want to secede from the US, I don’t think they will care what the US says.

Also, millions of people living in Texas are not originally from Texas and have no particular allegiance to Texas.
