My grandfather was an anthropologist and had a human skull. He had some paperwork that showed how it wad obtained. When he died one of my aunts inherited it.
But it doesn’t sound the same to the speaker. The speakers skull vibrates with the speech and makes the pitch lower and richer in their ears.
If you are not used to your voice being played from a speaker it always sounds more chipmunk then you are used to.
I’m with you. For me it’s decimate to mean " destroy most of" instead of destroy 10%. Deci literally means one tenth. How much do you think a deciliter is?
Except the squats.
Honestly Red Hat only has a big grip on the mid to small size business side.
Steam play. I spent nine years with linux as my main work os. Then I’d come home and game on windows. Once Steam play was mature I setup a dual boot to give it shot. I think I booted into windows twice after that.
Warhammer 40k. I know it’s known for having a lot of lore but even knowing that it’s s shocking how much lore there is.
There was a 1983 adaptation of Something Wicked that Bradbury was involved with and liked. Honestly it didn’t do much for me though.
It was something around 40 TB X2 . We were doing a terrain analysis of the entire Earth. Every morning for 25 days I would install two fresh drives in the cluster doing the data crunching and migrate the filled drives to our file server rack.
The drives were about 80% full and our primary server was mirrored to two other 50 drive servers. At the end of the month the two servers were then shipped to customer locations.
I’m with you. Hyperion was a struggle. I like Fall of Hyperion a lot. Couldn’t finnish Endymion.
I just went and watched his pork taco video. The only spice he uses is paprika. The pork looked so dry. Bell pepper as the bass of the salsa.
In the US you probably get 2 weeks of flexible PTO and about 5 days where everybody gets a day off. Even that is not guaranteed US law doesn’t require any PTO.
New Who tends to run on Bugs Bunny logic but also wants you to take it seriously. Try some old Doctor Who if you can handle very bad effects. Early Tom Baker or the Jon Pertwee stuff at least tries to make sense.
Also they often have the doctor have to work at the problem and have a plausible solution. Now it’s just I pushed the radiation in my shoe.
Back then the sonic screwdriver was just a high tech swiss army knife. The doctor would use it to open panels and rewire things. These days it’s a do anything magic wand.
I think Jodie Whittaker could have been a good doctor but like Peter Davison she was a doctor with a bad show runner and bad writers.
He should do a travel show called Food Omens.
It was supposed to be a history education show. Travel through time and learn about history. They dropped that by story 2 where they go to an alien planet and meet the Daleks.
Where I worked we had a very important time sensitive project. The server had to do a lot of calculations on a terrain dataset that covered the entire planet.
The server had a huge amount of RAM and each calculation block took about a week. It could not be saved until the end of the calculation and only that server had the RAM to do the work. So if it went down we could lose almost a weeks work.
Project was due in 6 months and calculation time was estimated to be about 5 1/2 months. So we couldn’t afford any interruptions.
We had bought a huge UPS meant for a whole server rack. For this one server. It could keep the server up for three days. That way even if wet lost power over the weekend it would keep going and we would have time to buy a generator.
One Friday afternoon the building losses power and I go check on the server room. Sure enough the big UPS with a sign saying only for project xyz has a bunch of other servers plugged into it.
I quickly unplug all but ours. I tell my boss and we go home at 5. Latter that day the power comes back on.
On Monday there are a ton of departments bitching that they came in an their servers were unplugged. Lots of people wanted me fired. My boss backed me and nothing happened but it was stressful.
