What is your beef with Kagi? I’ve found it pretty useful

Check out Afforai. It’s not perfect at all, but it is on track to do what I want.
It still runs, but no updates, they just push their web interface which is very weak compared to desktop app. New user adoption is likely next to nil and most people I talk to under 30 have never heard of it. Unless there is a better tool to switch though I’ll never have time to replicate the organizational infrastructure I’ve built in Mendeley and really like it, so I’ll use it until it dissappears.
Wow. Yes, this looks spot on thanks! Warning, Whenever I find cool services like this it seems like they tend to go under within a year or two, so apologies in advance.
Menedely hold out here myself! Tried switching to endnote because mendeley is for all practical purposes abandonware now but the conversion is very painful with loss of a lot of data - notes, organizational structure etc.
Still using the old desktop app nearly daily. If it was still a living project, integrating something like this into mendeley would be incredible.
Interesting start, yeah looks a bit in weeds for my purposes right now though
Looks a bit beyond me unfortunately, but sounds interesting
Looks neat, but does it have txt recognition? Either for graphical pdfs or preferably at least for the text notes I am writing so I can search later?
Thanks for making me feel like an idiot for not knowing things after age 30.
Typical Linux user physique portrayed here for accuracy.
Exaggerating of course, but mouse / wrist movements are more coarse than the subtle thumb movements of a trackball and it’s a noticeable transition.
Agree about the gunk issues, I do wish they were self cleaning, but not with the happy with what you have bit. Few people are actively exposed to trackballs. Give one a try and you might realize what you have is simply inferior for most tasks.
Care to be more specific? For gaming mouse is better perhaps, but for everything else I see no reason to wave your arm around like a baboon. Spend a few months with a good trackball and you will feel like an absolute ape using a mouse.
Really? They were evil way before that.
Another space program denier I see.
That kid wins!
Well super.
I pay with a crypto account and a dedicated email account. In this world you make your own privacy, everyone is out to get your info. Yes, they track my search trends and likely don’t do anything too nefarious with it now, but it’s only a matter of time before they do, but my trends in that account is all they will get and since there are no ads and I can play a part in content filtering and prioritization on Kagi, I am far less a victim than many other platforms.
