  • I have a cleaning lady who comes every-other week, which takes care of most upkeep. I also have a roomba that runs daily. Otherwise:

Walk the dog twice a day.
Do dishes / clean the kitchen every night.
Laundry, once a week while working from home.
Empty the litter box robot once a week.
    Take out trash as needed.
I also meal prep every Sunday.

I used to be a very messy person, but this system has worked well for me.

  • Personally there’s two key factors I look for: mesh seating and a back that reclines independently of the seat.

For the former, I get overheated on leather or cloth. Being suspended on mesh helps regulate temperature during an 8 hour workday.

For the latter, I once had an office chair that the seat tilted when the back was reclined. It dug into my under-knees and made my feet go numb.

I picked up a mesh chair at Office Max 10+ years ago and have been using it for 8+ hours a day since then. Zero issues or back pain.

  • “The goat man will get you.”

Used as a warning when doing something careless that would invite predators. My great-grandma came to the US from the Czech Republic and told the story of a man who raised goats and would steal children and break into homes at night. It was a reminder to lock your doors and valuables, and to never walk alone in shady neighborhoods.

I wish I could remember how to say it in Czech. It began with “Kuzubah”.

  • I work in IT. My favorite part is focusing on a difficult problem that no one else can solve, and fixing it. My nickname at work is “the tank” because they can point me at any issue and I’ll fix it. I’ll also toss in the paycheck. I had a recruiter tell me 2 years ago that my skill set isn’t even worth $65k and now I’m making more than double that.

My least favorite part is the occasional late nights. Worked a 20 hour shift the other day for a particularly difficult major issue. This happens maybe twice a year. I’m at an age where it takes a toll.
