And 99% of computer use for most people is in a browser. No need for an overly complex OS, with constant stupid pop-ups to ruin that browser experience.

Defintiely! I recently bought a used Thinkpad and slapped Pop!_OS on it for my father-in-law. He’s 73 and he’s loving it! He proudly tells his friends that he is now “a part of a computer revolution”.
Whenever I get bummed out by the current state of the Internet, I just remind myself that software like Krita, Godot and Blender exist.
Welcome back! Big cities rock
The inevitable end of capitalism
It had to do with encoding which works out-of-the-box in the Studio version, and not at all in the free version on Linux. I could’ve solved it by using something like Handbrake, but I didn’t want to add the extra step to my workflow. I also bought my Blackmagic 6K second-hand, so I’ve been wanting to properly pay them for their awesome products for a while now anyway.
Made the switch to Pop!_OS from Win10 half a year ago, and my machine’s been purring like a happy cat ever since. All my games still run (thanks, Proton!) and some even had a significant performance boost (RDR2 being the best example) with a 3090. Only problem I had was getting DaVinci Resolve to work properly, but I caved and bought the Studio version which runs perfectly.
I’ve made a couple of games in Godot over the last year, and watched this video yesterday. It’s a really, really good intro to the software. So much covered in just an hour, with a good balance between doing things the easy way, and doing things the correct way. That’s often a hard balance to achieve in gamedev/programming tutorials.
Switched to Antennapod when abandoning Spotify recently. It’s been great! Way better interface than Spotify’s embarrassingly horrible UI.
A long and rough collapse, followed by a slow rebuilding of a much smaller but much more unified global society.
If you need DaVinci Resolve, just know that when you switch to Linux, you will lose the ability to read and render mp4 files. You will need to buy the full version to be able to do this on Linux.
I use my desktop primarily for video editing, 3D modeling, and a bit of gaming, and it’s been running Pop!_OS since December with absolutely zero issues. The only annoyance has been the mp4 file thing in DaVinci.
And still using micro-HDMI for some godforsaken reason
This is definitely not true. Rooster Teeth has been producing some of their all-time best content since covid (speaking as fan since 2012). They just pivoted to primarily making podcasts, and most of their podcasts are awesome and high-production quality without feeling inauthentic. F**KFACE and ANMA are especially good for old fans.
I think Addy Valentine is the most underappreciated YouTuber when compared to his production quality.
Less than 4k subscribers, but without a doubt the highest quality videos in the entire Game Developer section of YouTube.
I once got called an “Ass-born Quasimodo” after beating somebody twice in a row in Hearthstone.
I’m still waiting for them to re-add a scrollbar for the mobile app podcast pages. Reported its disappearance multiple times the last two years, and just get empty answers from Spotify. Relistening to old podcasts is a pain, when having to scroll through hundreds of episodes without a quick scrollbar.
I second this! Very fun and enjoyable, but definitely more of a roguelike than an RPG.
If you like that kind of stuff, check out The Sapling, which is being developed and devlogged by this cool nerdy dude who I think is dutch.
The game is like an “eco dwarf-fortress” evolution simulator, and it’s been amazing to follow the development of.
Software Engineering. Most software is basically just houses of cards, developed quickly and not maintained properly (to save money ofc). We will see some serious software collapses within our lifetime.
Managed to reach a rank of 2450 in World of Warcraft 2v2 arena. It took an incredible amount of much time and effort, and I have accepted that I will never be as good at anything ever again.
