I don’t agree with most of these comments, except for the swipe down with two fingers. But it still looks like it’s early in development, and it’ll be a while until Android 16. I don’t think they’d make a two finger gesture the only way to access quick settings, especially from an accessibility standpoint. They’ll probably change it.

Current stock android quick settings suck. So much wasted space. Changing some settings is inconvenient. It looks quite bad, especially the brightness slider. And editing the tiles is currently extremely slow, difficult and janky.

This change improves the looks. The number of tiles per page is changed from 8 to 12/16. Toggling WiFi or Bluetooth on/off will now take only one tap instead of three. Editing tiles looks smooth and easy.

This isn’t change for the sake of change, this is a fix for one of Android’s weakest points.

Forest is a simple step counter that shows you the steps you did today, with a little extra info.

Doable is a tasks/reminders app. It’s not the most feature rich, and notifications are only in beta, but I love the design and it does what I need well.

Data Monitor shows you how much data you’ve used in your current plan, and you can see which apps use the most data (or wifi).

Quillpad for notes.

LibreOffice Viewer lets you open word documents and the like.

Squawker lets you open Twitter links more privately, and even follow users to see all of their posts, but requires you log in with an account.

Breezy Weather is a really nice weather app.

Moshidon is really good for android. I especially like that you can have custom timelines for basically anything

Also it might only take one report for an active mod team to ban a server. How long can that take? An hour? Less? If they’re on servers that real people use, bots have to be banned one by one, so the spam can last a lot longer and reach more people.

That means you can migrate between servers and keep all your friends and followers, something that’s currently not possible in the Fediverse.

It absolutely is possible to move accounts between instances on the fediverse. I’ve done it multiple times.

It does have some quirks tho. Posts aren’t migrated to your new account. (Some fedi software lets you migrate posts, but from what I hear it’s kinda jank).

It’s not seamless, but the option is there, and you won’t lose any friends or followers (unless they’re defederated or something)

Bluesky accounts seem like they’ll be more portable than fediverse accounts but I don’t know much about it

It’s a crawler that ports things from one platform to another without consent from the user. If either of them are unethical and should be blocked, then both should be blocked.

For me the biggest selling point of e-ink is for reading late at night. Since it’s not backlit it’s better for sleep, I think? Easier on the eyes, anyways.

If RCS is end to end encrypted, and doesn’t use messaging fees, then every reason they decided to drop sms is no longer valid, except for needing to spend more time developing it.

I doubt they’ll add it even if they did have the option, but it’s not ridiculous that they could.

I’m 99% sure that signal isn’t peer to peer. Afaik all messages go through signal’s servers, but they’re end to end encrypted so the server can’t see message contents, or who the messages are coming from.

The only thing that’s peer to peer are calls, but you can turn on ‘Always relay calls’ from settings to relay them through Signal’s servers.

Nah, doesn’t really work for me. Most topics I want to follow, hashtags are either not used, or used too broadly so I’m not really interested in what I get, or used too often so my feed gets filled with posts and I can’t see the people I’m following.

What I do is if I want to see somebody’s posts but I don’t want to see all of their posts, I put them into a list. Then if they boost a post I like, I check out the person’s account and either add them or don’t add them to the list. Doesn’t work too well, but it’s not awful either.

And then I also have 1 hashtag pinned (Moshidon feature), so that I can see the posts on it without getting them in my home feed.

• Proper federation of favorites and boosts. You can’t see favorites from people outside of your instance for some reason, and boosts are sorta federated from people outside of your instance, but still not fully. Lemmy manages to federate upvotes fine, so it seems like it’d be possible.

Why do you say it doesn’t feel the same between instances? The only problem I’ve seen is subscriber counts not federating.

Lemmy of all platforms is able to work fine without an algorithm. There needs to be some better sorting options, though. ‘Hot’ prioritizes new posts way too much, so you don’t even see posts that are 2 hours old.

Also some way of making posts from smaller communities show up higher since they’ll never get as many upvotes as posts from popular communities.

For a while now, the app has been really easy to sign up on, and now the website is the same.

The process got easier in mastodon 4.2.0, now you just have to type in your instance and it takes you to it directly.
