I’m not here for celebrities and they will always flock to centralized platforms anyways, since they are all about the views.

I’ve preferred firefox on Android, since it doesn’t refresh on me when I minimize it as often as other browsers.
I’ve had to block off entire instances too which I use the Connect app for.
I never found “all” browsable for any platform whether it be lemmy, YouTube, or reddit. It’s why subscribing has been so important to me, and filtering. Like on YouTube which I access through freetube I’ve disabled “trending” and “popular” since even the thumbnails were obnoxious for majority of the videos, and I blocked out channels to keep them from dominating search results. And on reddit what even made /r/all viewable was a reddit enhancement suite filter lists that was in the hundreds for blocking of communities, and even then was a wack a mole that required keyword filtering.
All of any platform will devolve into a shit show. As for niche subs. Yeah, not much that can be done about that if the user base is small.
It’s so weird that Google’s phone has been the most accessible for unlocking your phone. Oneplus used to be good too, but then they became bad in that area too and now custom rom scene seems dead for newer Oneplus phones.
If there’s a more active community it could be a good idea to have the community locked but have a thread redirecting visitors to the other community to help the one that’s still alive grow.
The new icon is so cute.
I’d love to see that happen. At the very least security updates. It’s a shame when a device stops getting updates rendering it an insecure device despite the hardware still being capable of quality performance. Especially with phones costing more than laptops.
Yeah, I would prefer being able to do a back up image of the phone and save it to my computer and then hand it in after doing a factory reset. Then just restore it when I get the phone back. Android sucks in this department compared to Apple.
I do same. Don’t got any accounts logged in either on it and just runs f-droid apps and Aurora store. It’s reason I value physical Sims since it makes it easy to swap when I need to without having to sign in to anything, since it’s my accountless phone that if I lost has nothing of importance in it.
What place isn’t. If you want unbiased aggregate of news the only option is a rss. There isn’t a place for an unbiased social media for news if it is user submitted and driven by voting or algorithm based.
I recommend Connect for lemmy if you have Android. Can put in filters to block communities that contain any keywords and posts that contain key words. And block entire instances.
When it comes to social media filtering is important to curate out the filler you don’t want.
Oh crap. Has that been happening? That would be bad.
Mobile games don’t become as lucrative as it is without mtx. People understand the business reason, but it doesn’t mean it shields it from criticism. Doesn’t need defending either, since as you said money is enough to not care. You don’t really start doing that stuff if you care about perception, so I say good for them monetarily speaking. But, that’s the extent of my praise.
Personally I avoid videos with variations of the open mouth, confused face, and disappointed look these days. It’s just the area of YouTube I’ve gotten tired of, and those videos usually tend to be pretty shilly playing to the algorithm and tend to be from bigger channels. I understand why its done, but it doesn’t shield from criticism. Anyways good for them, but it has manifested in a way where because the algorithm is what dictates the product it feels like AI in a way where the presentation style gets tiring.
If I used an IPhone my approach would just be to get the cheapest smallest version which is the SE, and it’d just be to use imessage for blue bubbles and Apple wallet.
For that reason I wish there was a ipod nano sized iPhone.
Lemmy.world is a general one. I’m thinking more along the lines of places like exploding heads to give an idea of a strong ideological instance.
Strong ideologically driven instances may be more invested in spreading the gospel, so depending on the frequency of posts that populate /c/all and topics that garner a lot of attention it can lead to certain instances standing out compared to more generic ones. It’s kind of becomes like someone sporting a sports jersey versus others that might just be more generic clothing as an example.
Maybe better example might be like how people assume things by the bumper stickers people have on their cars, or signs and flags they choose to display in front of their houses compared to the general neighborhood. There’s some passion that may be assumed.
But people here don’t really care that much about celebrities being here and maybe not even their username being unique. Could probably be anon1, anon2, etc and it wouldn’t matter that much, since real identity is probably not a draw for them. Focus on regular people wanting the userbase to want to use fediverse rather than celebrities which is an off-putting first impression and point of sale for lot of people here.
You need to pivot is what I’m saying to achieve what you want.
