I’ve found Thunder to be a great replacement with some modern, gesture and UX friendly enhancements. Raccoon for Lemmy is pure magic and I highly recommend it as well, but the UX and UI are more modern and has less of that RIF, old-school forum thread scroller vibe.

You know that “anti commercial AI license” shit does nothing, right? It’s the equivalent of idiots posting that wall of text on Facebook a decade or so ago saying they don’t give Facebook permission to use their pictures, posts…etc.

I mean if it makes you feel better and gives you a sense of control in an otherwise out-of-your-control environment then I suppose go for it, but you’re not actually accomplishing anything other than making yourself feel slightly better and more deluded.

Completely off topic to the thread, but you just reminded me of a time I snuck onto a movie set and got to actually do that. I posed as a driver for the car company and got to start/drive one of those bad boys with the hand crank. Inside was all switches too which was wild. The most uncomfortable ride of my life.

I’ve actually started working on something like this for grocery shopping recently for personal use. Right now it primarily takes your location, a list of items, shows the unit price comparisons, and then compiles them into a shopping stop list. Once I get it better fleshed out and working semi-properly, I might ake the repo public and invite additional features like the ones you mentioned through the community

Love this, but now I’m also realizing how awful my workflow is in general. More than half of the time when I get into a groove I don’t even switch directories between tasks and end up just calling the relative path like an animal 😆

Observing the same here. Will look to see if the bug exists later (or if you end up filing it) and maybe play around with it. There are a few cool Thunder feature requests that would also be killer (like ability to custom configure swipe actions). One small and purely superficial thing that I’m loving though is the font preview menu. Great user-first design and engineering.

Thunder has been my go to since Liftoff stopped getting updates and 19.0 effectively caused a lockout. That being said, I am really ooking forward to trying out Raccoon once it hits F-Droid or play store (too lazy to compile myself tbh) as everything I’ve seen from the dev has been positive.

Edit: just checked and looks like the tester version IS available in the playstore finally. Exciting news 😀

This one feels a bit off the mark. Women served in key leadership roles as the party grew and evolved (partly owing to the fact that most of the original leadership was either imprisoned or murdered straight out). Is that to say that there were not problematic actions that should be called out re: women and their treatment within the party early on? Absolutely not. One of the things Huey later came to see as detrimental was his insistence on free association early on (i.e., free love) which ended up causing drama and caused a lot of harm particularly to the women involved in the arrangements later on. That being said, here are the words from the horses mouth (so to speak) re: women and other oppressed marginalized groups:

What truly did the party in was a combination of FBI and police assassinations, too much trust placed in Eldridge Cleaver (which Huey, again, came to regret later on), too much reliance on whitewashed panther satellites and academic-first “revolutionaries,” along with Huey and Bobby spending close to a decade in prison and off the streets, during which time the party had morphed away from their community action roots and been splintered due to infighting.

I watch it during lunch sometimes and have kept up with every episode so far. Its not what it was of course back in the day, but I largely use it as semi- background while eating lunch, knowing that if I have to cut things short or divert my attention it won’t matter.
