Soft bricked VS Hard bricked. Agree that it would be nicer to be more precise in headline, but both are technically under Bricked category.
Regarding TOTP tokens, some time ago switched to Aegis app which allows token export in JSON which I store in Dropbox. I believe only thing that I would lose would be last photos that I have not backed up yet. And past Signal conversations which sometimes come useful.
But for regular folks losing access to phone indeed seems like nightmare scenario for 2FA. I think MS Authenticatior backed tokens to your OneDrive if you enabled it in settings. Often these less secure options are good tradeoff for usability.
Practically all my previous phones were either lost or stolen so it will be inevitable some day. Almost lost my current one year ago due to being drunk, luckily got it back.
Talking here about regular x64 OS install not ARM though, have not played with that myself.
Not really, it is usually PowerShell scripts from trusted blogs or in case of local account creation, you run a batch file that is built in installer (oobe\bypassnro) that adds a single registry value. Not sure I would call this hacking. Then again I don’t think Linux 10 years again had problems with account creation as well.
Would be nicer if you could create local account out of the box? Sure. Do some prefer MS account? Also true.
Reaction from a lot of people seems as if Nova now has some kind of keylogger and some random dude from Nigeria will try to access your bank account.
All that depends on developer. Majority of my used Windows software is portable stored in folder that’s synced with Dropbox. All settings are then usually stored in the same folder so I can easily copy SW over to another machine without loosing any configuration / history.
Some of those programs still do not store settings in same folder, you can often simply export settings from GUI.
Tried it out and it has decent customization although Multiling O still provides more options. That said I think I will give it a shot and maybe finally move to Samsung keyboard since its dictionary and swipe are much better, plus it has some cool features like underlined spelling mistakes, emoji search and translate straight from keyboard.
Edit: Think I have found a deal breaker. My language has diacritics so I need a modifier key to quickly type without holding a key and choosing letter from pop up. There is an option using ALT as modifier, but when it is enabled, keyboard layout is not the standard one where you get like a V shape, second row keys are right under first row and it throws off my typing.
That’s with Keys Cafe, right? Have seen that module, but have never looked into it much. Will check it out later.
Looks good although not sure it will replace Multiling O Keyboard for me. That keyboard still seems to have unparalleled layout customization options.
What’s wrong with TOTP?
Do not think I have experienced anything I would consider a bug in file explorer after using W11 for months. If you did an upgrade from W10 maybe a clean install or reset of W11 would help in your situation.
Using any 3rd party software that changes file explorer, start menu, Windows in general appearance?
You need to find appropriate storage driver that you then load during install (extracted in *.inf format not *.exe)
Possible alternative is to disable some proprietary storage related feature in BIOS / UEFI so that you would use standard drivers that are included in install. UEFI update might help as well. Usually there is a guide for all this.
W10 will be EOL on 2025 Oct 14. They are practically the same, what exactly makes you want to go back to W10?
Have never seen this as a consumer though. I remember buying a laptop 10 years ago without OS since it was cheaper than same model with preinstalled Windows. Checked a random laptop and same still applies, version with Windows costs 30 eur more in my local webshop for what seems to be the same model with same specifications (No English available, use translate if needed):
For what it’s worth vertical tabs is currently 3rd most rated suggestion
runas.exe cannot start elevated process. Exceptions seem to be MMC snap-ins so you can launch something like lusrmgr.msc or devmgmt.msc with admin account and you will have admin rights.
Ditch CMD and use PowerShell like a civilised person. ls is a valid built-in alias to Get-ChildItem. cd itself is an alias to Set-Location.
I remember telling someone to go kill themselves was a generic insult in school. Same as “fuck off”.
Just to add, consumer outlook / live / hotmail also benefits from this since it is also using Exchange in backend.
Additionally EWS is atually deprecated and planned to be closed on 2026 October for at least commercial Exchange Online (M365 / Cloud) customers (unclear from that article if free Outlook accounts also will be affected) although as with all MS announcements it will probably be prolonged. Microsoft Graph API is the new hot thing, but it seems some EWS features are not yet available in Graph API based on comments.
Another thing that in a proper company setting that uses Exchange Online you must approve applications before they can be used to access data (Not just Exchange data, this is Entra ID formerly Azure AD feature) for both EWS (in the past it was different, but now Oauth must be used which requires approval) and Graph API so company administrator will have to approve Thunderbird which many will not allow.
Keepass2Android supports many cloud options including Nextcloud and OwnCloud so it sync with storage directly. At least with Dropbox it works like a charm.
