That’s good to know, though I wouldn’t know how to do the initial setup either. 😅

Good to know!
To be honest that was very over my head, but maybe I’ll do some research on it sometime. I don’t do self hosting so I would be looking for things that don’t need that to work.
Would love to hear about some you like!
Eagerly awaiting European owned competitors to american big tech products
I tried it for a year but I don’t watch very much of the type of content on there so I ended up canceling it. It’s a decent app. Definitely missing a lot of the QOL of something as long in development as YouTube, but it wasn’t bad.
I don’t think their goal is to be a YouTube alternative for what its worth. They seem to cater it towards very specific types of videos (mostly educational and news content creators).
I miss this too. Was fun sometimes.
Supergiant has one of the best art teams in the business, so I’m not surprised it’s hard to do.
Thanks for the info. You’ve given me some things I need to consider.
I see, thanks for the info
Can you clarify what you mean by a nonprofit domain? The places I would need to forward right now are a few gmail addresses, a domain I own, and a couple zoho addresses (though those also use a custom domain, not sure if that changes things).
That’s a great callout and a very important feature to me. Do you use anything other than gmail? To be honest the encryption isn’t the main selling point for me, I would just like to de-google where I can these days.
No actually, thanks for passing that along!
I went to school with a kid named Merlin Sunlight.
Did he say it noz-moh or noh-smoh?
I’m definitely not the one to ask.
I said this a while ago on another thread, but if I was a Dev on the project I would be working to create a website that automatically signs you up for an instance. The high level concept is instances would opt into this pool, the user would simply put in their username like any regular website, and then the system would create them an account on whichever instance was best for them (maybe based on ping/trying to spread population around).
This would majorly reduce the barrier to entry in my opinion, because a lot of people just want to browse, and don’t care about the federation aspect at all.
Thanks!
