Linux user complaining about having to add repositories manually in order to get a piece of software to update or to add a tool they need.
Me as an any operating system user. Both have draw backs that aren’t for normal people.
NO PEACE. WE MUST FEED.

Didn’t it fuck up Linux in an Enterprise env as well though?
I am rocking the Pixel 8 Pro but man this would almost have me wanting to test drive a Nothing device. I was close to pulling the trigger on a Zenphone 10 this year. MKBHD sold me on that device.
While I am a stranger and me saying sorry probably doesn’t help much. That stuff sucks and I am sorry you had to deal with it. People have it in their head that we are all supposed to love our family and just get along but people don’t realize that families are sometimes just people who didn’t love us or loved us less than we loved them or vice versa loved us more than we loved them. Family is tricky. It doesn’t sound like you were close and I don’t know your entire story but either way it is a loss and regardless of him not being there for you it says a lot that you were at the very least there for him. Which, in my opinion, is the most you can do.
I hope you are the person that carries that forward and uses that as a means to not walk out on others lives when they need you most and I hope in return they are a part of yours when you are on your way out of this world. Enjoy your holidays.
Elitism: the advocacy or existence of an elite as a dominating element in a system or society.
What you just described is exactly how elitism works. I understand the hate for Facebook and all of Meta’s products. However, this is exactly how gate keeping starts. I don’t want to see the fediverse go anywhere more than the next person but it becomes contradicting and hypocritical to the entire establishment of the fediverse if Lemmy or other federated apps begin to decide who can and can’t be federated. That is the whole image right? To prevent gate keeping and to establish that not one person owns any one portion of Lemmy, Mastodon, etc. However, what happens when an entity on Lemmy does start deciding to defederate a Conglomerate starts making decisions just like Facebook? The does Lemmy not start fitting the bill of not being able to tolerate the intolerance as well? To me that becomes elitism the very thing Lemmy users swear is a perfect system.
I don’t believe Meta is good for anyone or anything but Lemmy users need to understand that you can’t say, “we are different.” And then justifying the very contradiction of being exactly the same by just saying, “Facebook takes freedom.” I don’t like Facebook infact fuck them but either Lemmy users admit they need to play the game like Facebook and that someone controls who is a part of content and who isn’t or they don’t. Just stop trying to find ways that this would be “different” just fucking say, “we want to control the content that is on the platform and who can be a part of it.” Because now you are playing the Meta game on their own terf. Just tired of Lemmy users thinking they are special.
I don’t really check Lemmy that often. Hence why my usage has dropped off. I also have become less and less involved with social media over all, but I apologize where apologies are due if I happen to stumble upon something I said.
I regularly check history when I am on to see what was said. My Lemmy history isn’t great. I haven’t had an easy time getting integrated into Lemmy as I think it is just like Reddit.
Your comment, I read in a different context. It wasn’t until I went back and looked at my history of the comment you were looking at that I grasped what you were actually trying to do. I read it in the opposite light. I essentially thought you were saying, "well I found a post where they weren’t talking about Linux and big corpo but I got it backwards.
I owed you an apology regardless of time.
Honestly, I apologize. I didn’t read your comment like that at all and I genuinely apologize.
Man, Lemmy users also take things far more literal.
My activity dropped because I can’t enter a single thread that isn’t about, big corpo, Linux, and how I shouldn’t spend money.
Using a 7 Pro same circumstances and I do not have this issue at all?
The display is also 2400 nits peak brightness. I will take a brighter screen over HDR10+ literally any fucking day of the week.
Corporatism my friend.
The issue is Qualcomm who makes the majority of SoCs for phones. Qualcomm, if I am not mistaken controls the support of the phone because the phone uses their chip.
Google is now pulling an Apple move and using their own Silicon (Samsung’s Silicone) to bypass using Qualcomm.
Using a Pixel 7 Pro right now. I used to sell phones for Verizon. I still have connections there and got to hold one in person. I love the look and feel of the Pixel Fold. Hands down the best fold because of its design form factor being wider rather than taller.
I would wait one or two more generations for better battery life though.
Also necessary there are very few but apparently some stories that talk about people being hacked because they sent their Android device off for repair or replacement. If ends up in a malicious person’s hands and gets used against them some how some way.
Depends on the age of the phone and if it is boot loader locked by a carrier.
Home Assistant, learn about it. You could turn your phone into a camera viewer, light switch, smart weather provider, detection device with Bluetooth. Etc.
Terminal on Windows looks amazing.
“Why do you guys simply believe things should get better?”
That is how I read this. More power, more efficiency, better tech is not a bad thing to want.
Just because you want to hold on to a 5 year old phone doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t at least want to see efficiency in our pockets get better for the value we spend on them.
Imagine if someone said, I have dial up internet. Why are you guys constantly wanting faster Internet speeds.
It’s okay to want things to get better. You should not have the mentality of, “it’s just good enough.”
Not knocking you but there is also a reason the “I use Arch memes” exist.
