  • It’s only a matter of time before Google doesn’t give you directions for the shortest and most efficient route, but rather plans your route to send you past the stores that pay the most in advertising.

“You could get to your destination by going down smith street fastest, but Glover Street has McDonald’s so we will send you down that road”

  • It shows little popup logos on the screen where the places are located, like a McDonald’s logo a few street over as you are driving by in your commute. I had it show me a Toyota logo for a Toyota dealership yesterday. Like, why do I need to know there’s a Toyota dealership there unless I’m specifically searching for it? Toyota probably paid them to show up a certain amount of times.

  • Depends on the location. Mosquito control is done all over, but I’m only somewhat familiar with north america.

It’s pretty widespread in the United States where it’s done by government employees at the municipal and county level I believe. They do use a fair bit of aerial spraying in certain areas though as I understand since there is a high concern of certain diseases being spread in certain areas.

In Canada it’s mostly done by private companies (ironic I know) with a few areas being done by the government, and it’s mostly done just because of nuisance and negative economic effects from outdoor workers and tourism so aerial spraying of chemicals is pretty much not done at all except for one major city which is phasing it out.

If you live anywhere in north America that’s nearby a river, coast, swampland, or significant snowmelt into he spring, you may have a local mosquito control program.

I never even knew the control programs existed until I came across the job postings and got hired, but they are fairly wide spread.

  • We don’t use aerial spraying, which can cause harm to other insects.

We only use a bacteria that’s put in standing water which only harms mosquitos in their larval form (or biting black flies) and is totally safe for pretty much everything else since it needs very specific biological conditions for it to become toxic, which is only found in the stomachs of mosquitos and black flies.

I never even knew about them until about 10 years ago, then knew I wanted one immediately after looking them up.

Then a year later my sister, working at an animal rescue shelter, let me know that one came in after being abandoned due to running off and being picked up by animal control multiple times, and then I immediately got on the list to adopt.

Apologies for the photo bombardment but definitely one of the best of the dog breeds out there.

Need to have space though and be more of a partner than a master, to tolerate stubbornness and barks.

  • Personally I don’t even subscribe to any. I just browse all and then filter out any community that pops up which I don’t think I’ll ever be interested in.

I started to subscribe to a few but when browsing subscribed only I felt like I was potentially missing so much, because maybe I subscribed to the wrong “aww” instance but I also didn’t want to go through and find the 3-4 different versions to subscribe to.

This way I see everything, except the stuff that I definitely don’t want to see (like most of the porn instances, non-english instances, etc.)
