These are all excellent communities, and invariably some of my favorite posts of the day. I’m seeing them on lemmy.world, btw.
These are all excellent communities, and invariably some of my favorite posts of the day. I’m seeing them on lemmy.world, btw.
!cyberpunk@lemmy.zip - mostly games, movies, shows, and music in the cyberpunk sci-fi genre
!wavemusic@lemmy.world - music: synthwave, vaporwave, etc. A fairly new community, a couple different people have been posting
!gothindustrial@lemmy.world - music community. I was hoping someone else would make the 300th post, if not I’ll post something later today.
!fullmoviesonyoutube@lemm.ee - a larger community, a couple of us are posting regularly, but could use more discussion
!fedigrow@lemm.ee - a community about how to help grow the fediverse. @Blaze@reddthat.com has been posting a weekly thread on “how is your [niche] community doing?” which is kind of like a support group for people keeping communities alive
edit: how could I forget, !shortstories@literature.cafe - links to short stories online in all genres
They are 30-minute sessions. I did them in my car during work commute. Many public libraries have them. Here’s the first session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eguDJPkjPwQ
I’ve used the Pimsleur language programs for a couple languages. It’s audio based: you hear a recording, and you say it out loud. A great way to get started.

if you took the world and seperated its humans by intelligence, the “idiot” group is going to be much bigger than the “PhD” group. Like…by a lot.
No… you’d have a bell curve. But even that assumes you have a single good measure of intelligence.
I kind of agree with the rest of your post, but I would have worded it a bit differently, emphasizing that people who found it difficult to start using Lemmy might still be worth having around. Also, I don’t think “as large as Reddit” or “small niche unknown” are our only options.
It’s !linkedinlunatics@sh.itjust.works here, fyi.
Fake news. In truth, Sir Stewart Wallace’s schedule was filled with escapades, adventures, and tomfoolery, which prevented him from committing.
When you defend, print out your slides; at least enough for your committee and you. Then if all else fails, you can present off the paper copies. (also, it gives the committee members somewhere to write notes and to easily look back to previous slides.)
I just say: “It’s like email. There are different email servers, but they can all talk to one another. If there are things you really like, you can subscribe to them, and if there are things you don’t like, you can block them.”
Or replace “email” with “instant messages”.
at least two people with Lemmy World accounts downvoted this post.
Maybe they don’t like the thought of Ruud getting older.
Ouch, twice the price is rough, fair enough.
Sure, there’s a price differential, but I think of it as a “cover charge” for going and hanging out in their bookstore.
You’ve heard of “Free Hugs”…
You’ve heard of “Free Shrugs”…
Now get ready for:
if you show up unshowered and without deodorant ata fucking con and im near you i will puke all over you.
what can she do to possibly deal with or go around the internal politics?
See if she can get a particularly influential parent on her side?
Probably don’t try any of that shit,
Now you tell me, I just spent the last couple hours trying to get free CompuServe access.
If you’re REALLY strict, then “retaining the memory of it happening” is a consequence. So maybe this already happened under the strict setting, but none of us remember it.
Not comment-OP, but you could start here: !fosai@lemmy.world. the latest post is to a RAG tutorial, and there are various other resources in the sidebar.
“Terror! Robespierre and the French Revolution”
Focuses on Robespierre’s year on the Committee for Public Safety. It has a mix of re-enactments and “talking head” experts, and the talking heads often disagree with one another. It’s a set of events that’s usually ignored in US schools, which is a shame because there’s a lot we could learn there.
@PugJesus@lemmy.world it’s time to “cross the Rubicon” to full federation!
