OliveTin looks interesting, thanks!
Nobody likes a sucker, especially the kind that fall for fruit tarts like you. I knew there was trouble. I could smell it on the hot evening breeze. Fortunately for me, trouble is my favorite thing… Because I’m Joe Milkshake. I kicked down the door with one swift, decisive motion.
OliveTin looks interesting, thanks!
1 it is just an example
2 not what I asked but thanks for your input
Great to hear, thanks again!
Awesome, that is exactly the type of first hand experience and description I was looking for! Thanks!
Is there anything to be expected when updating the system to a new version? Maybe you haven’t done that yet…
No encryption as far as I am aware of, unless its standard in windows 10 and I don’t know about it. I have experience with partitioning, so I’ll have a think if this is worth trying or not.
Have already backed up important windows files anyway.
“Need” for windows is just my wife who uses the same laptop. VM might be an idea but it will still be “different” and she is not very technical. So yeah, it has to be dual boot for the beginning, so I might in the end just go for a different distro that is easier to set this up with.
Thanks! I have seen those links but haven’t had time to read them fully yet, they looked like just discussing around the issue to me, not solving it. But I will have a closer look again, thanks for highlighting those.
Before this post I had never even heard of Discuit.
Music is on the radio. But radio is not all music there is.
Ya! OP’s a big fat phony! Even made a miniature watch to try and fool us!
Yeah, try to avoid using USB hard drives.
Can you elaborate for which use case you’d see them as less reliable than other options? I am using USB connected drives now for about 2 years in a home setup and haven’t had any bad experiences. My use case might be a lot more low tech and than others though.
If its for research paper storage and organising, why not something dedicated like Zotero? Or even Menedely, that’s more commercially oriented. You can pay for online storage space for either and it names and organises your papers for you. If she is concerned about TOS changes and AI enshittiffication I’d stay away from Menedley though, its an Elsevier product by now (massive scientific publisher).
This is fucking hilarious.
The entire time since that announcement last year dropped I have been using the modified Infinity for Reddit client that has my own API code in it.
I told myself if that stops working, whatever, I will not try to keep the app up to date and I will not switch apps. Lemmy works well enough for me now.
Up to this day the few times I have been accessing reddit through it I have no issues whatsoever. Amazing. Then again I never tried while they had issues with their official app, I suppose. Unless that is right now as I type this, because right now my app is still working fine.
Seconded, have been using it for a while and its simple and great!
Haha, wife bad!
I’d agree but you can expand this quite widely then. You think they don’t need their pictures anymore, in case you host something like Immich/Photoprism? If you host movies, series, games, they may not need them anymore but it would still be noticeable that they are not accessible anymore.
Not that I am saying you are wrong or what a good way of doing that would be. I don’t know myself.
True but you also would need a ton of storage space to compete. I’d be curious what would happen if YouTube decided to restrict public access.
I think this post is retiring that GIF. There can be no better use for it anymore. Well done!
Shadow ban is different though. You can still post and interact but no one else sees you.
