Consider your Finders Bias.
For certain, and in the grand scheme of things 50 years is nothing. For most of humanity generation upon generation would pass without any significant advance.
The last 100 years really hints at the speed of the singularity curve as things are getting better at an insane rate. But there are costs to those advances that if left unchecked can truly threaten the future of our species.
Definitely the latter. If I can recommend a book please read it despite it’s title: “Everything is Fucked” by Mark Manson.
The title is supposed to be a joke as when things get better we still will find even the smallest of problems, everything isn’t fucked it’s our perception. This is human nature. There’s other really interesting observations in the book that I really enjoyed, but that’s the main theme.
It’s Mooby, the golden calf!
I feel like you could have led with that instead of making this opinion based!
I just read Outlive by Peter Attia and it has sooo much good information about extending healthspan. I like how it references studies about why things are that way - which helps me change my habits when I know the WHY.
Vermont Canna-Cheddar Ale Soup
This soup is a love letter to the Green Mountain State in a bowl. Vermont is known for its world-class cheddar cheese, and for being one of the OG states to embrace the cannabis lifestyle. This creamy, rich soup pays tribute to the newly legalized state in the best way possible.
Ingredients:
4 slices of bacon
4 tablespoons of cannabutter
½ cup of onion (minced)
¼ cup of carrot (minced)
¼ cup of celery (minced)
1 small bay leaf
cup of all-purpose flour
1 (12-ounce) bottle of ale
2½ cups of milk
1 (14-ounce) can of chicken broth
1 teaspoon of dry mustard
1 pound of sharp cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Cook bacon on stovetop, and set aside. Crumble when cool enough to handle.
Melt cannabutter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, celery, carrot, and bay leaf; stir continuously until vegetables are tender and translucent (about 4-5 minutes).
Add flour, and stir for about three minutes.
Pour in ale, and whisk for about two minutes until bubbly and thickened. Whisk in milk, dry mustard, and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer, while stirring frequently.
Lower heat, and add cheese one small handful at a time while whisking. Keep stirring until the cheese is fully melted, but don’t allow the mixture to boil.
Remove from heat, and discard bay leaf. Garnish with bacon and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese.
I see OPs point - fucking Stamets replied to me! Good stuff. Love it!
According to one of the latest kurzgesagt videos we all should be in smaller communities like this and large ones like Facebook and Reddit are generally bad for our mental health.
Pedophilia: The Musical
It’s a history of the Catholic Church.
Just replaced a couple of 25 yr old ACs with heat pumps and this is the answer.
MySpace still exists…
This is a logical fallacy. For example just because the Uighur issue receives less present attention (because it’s not NEW) doesn’t make the latest attempt at genocide more acceptable.
That question doesn’t strike you as mildly inappropriate?
It’s a suspicion based on the second point and that our brains naturally want to dream to rehash our day for memory purposes, particularly during REM, though of course there are other types of dreams & timing too. But the mid term memory storage stops working the same.
I’m actually quite convinced that you do dream you just don’t remember it anymore. I really only remember waking dreams.
I have not experienced more vivid dreams when on a break, but I do remember more of them.
In my opinion in 100 years it will be viewed as genital mutilation as it’s done to children without consent for basically no reason at all. But by then it will be purely an elective surgery adults get so they feel their dick looks prettier, so whatever.
Pretty far from the biggest problem of our age. Maybe don’t stress about it.
Irony can be used in many situations. I want a German word that specifically refers to this situation. Something like Erfinderhybris; I just slammed Inventor and Hubris together.
