I read all that and honestly, that all sounds exactly like what I would assume an early- mid 20s relationship burdened under existential nihilism coupled with that numbing pervasiveness that hollows you out after losing your staring contest with the absurd, and the ideations that our ennui naturally exude.

It’s easy to look back over years and pencil it in neatly, plot holes filled, from our privileged advantage in time. Life, as we know, if weve lived a sufficient amount of it, is never as linear as our stories, nor as intentional, and providence and luck benefit us each more than we admit, even to ourselves. We embellish our own story - to ourselves. It’s too easy to retcon stories in a bad light, fucking creative industries are devoted to that entire genre, but it’s way to easy to think, gee exurb1a’s smart and think it’s all premeditated and working to a point and in that light that’s all really fucked up. Idk man. I think we all can look back a decade and find ourselves cringe, I imagine these two kids are no different.

Parallel to that you could see how maybe guys having some fun running with an idea with this gal. Maybe he set up some synchronicities, people do plan surprises don’t they? That’s still a thing right? I think it’s entirely plausible it’s a series of happenstances she’s rewriting as if theres some davinci code Roseline thru it all. I think it’s entirely plausible that exurb1a was shooting from the hip the whole time, while talking about the heavy shit that goes thru his mind. And your mind, and mine, cuz if you know of him, you also know what entails the ennui.

I mean, youve listened to his essays, and you’re…surprised…that his life is chaotic and messy too? Like… you didn’t see this coming? Maybe his next video should be about making apples from applesauce.

Y’know, nowhere did I see her take any personal responsibility. It was her trip to a psych ward because of him, not her lack of critical thinking or ability to put space between them? Idk man, eschewing agency doesnt absolve yourself accountability and it sure as shit doesn’t lend your credibility.

I’ve read her side and I’m not convinced, I still have questions, things just aren’t adding up to me. A couple screenshots of text (that totally can’t be faked right?) isn’t what I would call bringing receipts. Im reserving judgement until I see his response, assuming he responds in public, y’know since that’s where she brought her accusations. Until we hear both sides, it’s all hearsay anyways. In reality, we don’t know shit about either one of these people, whether theyre good people or not or whatever. Maybe she’s trying to go all Amber Heard on him, how the fuck would we be able to discern otherwise?

Yea, I think reserving judgement is prudent. And if the reality doesn’t come to light? Well, oh well. It’s not our business to begin with.

  • Hey I just want to share,a thought I had about the nature of stress that has helped me reframe a lot in my life, maybe it’ll help you or somebody else

We know scientifically that stress hormones speed up our aging. So stressing is literally life at 2x. If you’re like me, and 95% of the rest of us, then you have to earn a paycheck/ ,have to sell your labor for finances. If you’re like the 75% of us that’s one missed paycheck, or one t-boning that you’re 100% the victim for but still spend weeks in the hospital just to end up evicted but still like 5 years from any insurance payout (murica), and you’re stressing your bills…does the stressing over a debt to a faceless, soulless corporation lower your interest rate? Will the stressing and mental berating you submit yourself too erase those overdraft fees? If you’re stressing over these kind of ‘faceless’ things you’re literally spending your life double time, but…they don’t accept that kind of currency.

If anything, the time lost to stress is also time thats twice lost because you could’ve been working towards a quickfix if not a perm solution.

All I’m saying, is don’t spend your hours on things that don’t appreciate them. I will never get upset at a phone company or utility or whatever’s behest and torture myself for them. They don’t care about any of us, it’s high time we stopped caring about them too.

Try it out. Refuse to stress for a few days. Does life fall apart then? The biological imperative of the day is to simply survive, if youve done that, you’re already winning. Don’t let the faceless steal your thunder. ✌️

  • Way up that list before I mentioned Second Thought I also mentioned the Fat Electrician, whom, if you haven’t seen his work, is staunchly, aggressively, anti-communist.

Do those that you’ve come up with or currently surround yourself with completely lose their critical thinking once video starts playing?

Idk what to tell you man, you jump to a shitton of conclusions. Wearing pink doesn’t make me gay

When I see a sign in another language I don’t think it’s talking about me.

Take care of yourself, I guess, if you want, either way, I’m done here.

You’ve cherry picked parts of my argument and disregarded the meat, the heart of it that carried my point.

In other words, you either found contention too soon and disregarded the rest of youre intentionally being obtuse and arguing circularly as if one of us can win here.

The opening line was a statement, not an attack. The "you " in the second line is generic, not directed. If I’m not directing at you, why would I feel personally attacked? Cuz I don’t. C’mon man.

    Try again bro.

In my eyes, suppressing knowledge, or advocating it, is morally bankrupt.

If you have a better argument, you engage in the conversation, you don’t end the conversation and make sure no one else can talk about it again.

You shouldn’t even try to dissuade people from watching it, you should want the people around you to be better educated, I would think. Idk, man, I want my wife to stay with me cuz she chooses too, not because I’ve lied to her about every other man in the world, or destroyed her self confidence so she thinks she can’t do better.

To be clear, that’s abuse. All of that.

Looking around, imma go ahead and say capitalism, in any flavor it’s being expressed in this world, isn’t living up to its promises. From what I can tell, that puts me with 95% of everyone else.

Do I think communism is the answer? No. I think capitalism is fine for grand pianos, not Grandma’s pills.

After WW2 the post war economies settled on social democracy as the compromise between the two. I think we need to get back to that, and designate areas of the economy fundamental and forbidding people from profit or rent seeking practices. Education, medicine, emergency services, community development. Essentially if it’s something the government offers or necessitates, then it’s already paid for in taxes, that goes for permits, passports, licensing, reviews, All of it. I think that because it’s obvious the relationship between elected officials and civil servents to the population needs repairing, drastic change. The only positive change I can fathom is simplifying for the end user (one tax) and open-transparency.

I’m willing to entertain arguments against, I don’t claim or think to know everything. In fact, everything Im right about now I can guarantee I was wrong about before.

  • 2008 financial crisis ripped the last vaneer off.

The rich won’t be allowed to lose. The whole system is bullshit. You can do everything right, get sick cuz fuknature, have to sell everything off for medicine and still die, younger than you should, in debt and penniless. It’s not even necessary, the Cruelty is the point. That’s capitalism. It’s about control, and capitalists need to be looked at like they have a mental illness. Most our jobs are bullshit and don’t matter. The national debt doesn’t matter. Money isn’t real, it’s a vehicle for resource allocation, not a store of value, but try getting someone not ready to hear that to even think about our social systems as something mutable and not organic or ordained. Nope. Society was designed, by people, and it’s working exactly as it’s intended, which is, fucking great for them and fuck everyone else.

At the end of the day, your physical body has had just one goal. Survive. Everything I have to do to achieve that end is justified by existence itself. Building a system that puts itself in the way of people simply surviving is building a system to fail. When it comes to politics, and by that I mean, do-whatever-you-want-as-long-as-it-doesn’t-hurt-someone-else and then policies, and for policy I just ask “is this the best we can do?”

I don’t think I see the best we can do anywhere.

  • I keep seeing report after report that Gen Z keeps falling for internet scams at an alarmingly high rate

    …which, I mean, idk, maaaybe?

Media literacy and scam discernment, I feel like we as millennials grew up alongside the rise of disinformation and the greater Enshitification of the internet, like this is our wheelhouse.

I remember icq, yahoo chat rooms, Napster and limewire, playing MUDS and ADOM, then digg, myspace. I remember when the Internet was fun, now, it’s just advertisers. I quit Facebook 7 years ago. I quit reddit with the API dick punch. I’ve been advertised to so much in my life that if I see a movie trailer it makes me not want to see it.

The internet can be great. Getting knowledge off it is amazing. I personal feel like the library of Congress should be made available online for free and all this knowledge thats hiding behind pay gates needs to be visited by the freedom fairy. I hope I can help facilitate this in my lifetime.

With media, I can only speak for myself, but I quit watching news in 2008. Ill read my news and not have some talking head attempt to emotionally manipulate me while they leave out key facts that don’t fit their narrative, thanks. Televised news has been more detrimental to us as a whole, imo.

My bullshit meter is simple. If whom or whatever is saying something that makes it an us vs them issue, dividing the people up, then they’re wrong. Almost universally. If your answer is only found down around the fallen, you aren’t bringing an answer, yr bringing an excuse to violence.

Real leadership, real progress, lifts up those it encounters. The rising tide is supposed to lift all ships. Cept in this dystopic reality, motherfuckers chained everyone’s ships to the dock and the rising tide just overcame and sank them. Rich get richer, poor get poorer, until the poor get even.

I’m dismayed we have to keep repeating this pattern. America had the same problems 100 years ago. We’ve had an entire century to do something about it, but fucking NOPE. An entire century wasted in my opinion. Better tech is cool, but if it doesn’t improve the lives of us all, than it fails the reasoning for tools existing in the first place, which is to relieve society if the many necessary hours of labor.

  • Assuming an intentional EMP sent America back to the stone age, then America would respond in kind to China, N.Korea, Iran, Pakistan and Russia. England, continental Europe, Turkey, India, Israel, Japan, S. Korea would all have been hit with the same at the same time. If somehow we all just traded queens and stopped there, or if a prolonged solar storm hit the planet repeatedly accomplishing the same, I really think your optimistic limiting global losses to 75%

After the first northern winter I would assume 90-95% of humanity is gone. Those that can hunt are the most likely to survive. Seafood increases your odds of survival by orders of magnitude, as it requires some skill, but much less caloric investment before reward. By and large we’ve lost the ability to farm without fertilizers and pesticides, many will try but one early freeze will kill off dependant communities. Climate change making weather less predictable def does not work in our favor.

After the first winter I wouldn’t be afraid of strangers. Another person is far too valuable, when you remember that there are lots of things outside that will happily kill us. We only have strength when we’re in numbers.

  • I also only use Facebook thru Firefox. Marketplace to be exact, I lost interest on the social media side in 2016 and haven’t scrolled down once since then.

Reddit thru Firefox spits out different front pages if it detects mobile v desktop version. I rarely go there but I can not stand the mobile ad/smut push, like it’s way to obvious just BUY THIS and BOOBIES. Unusable imo. And I’m just talking about the mobile version of Firefox, I won’t use their app. Fuck reddit.

  • Of all the actions a person can do that lend itself towards engendering compassion, empathy or altruism there is none more so than effort.

Whatever you’re doing, even if you don’t know it all, even if it isn’t the best, simply make sure it looks like you care.

Small things. Like putting a potted lavender outside your front door, or whatever. It shows your attention to detail that primarily effects other people. It makes you approachable. It’s the difference between your neighbors knocking on your door when your too loud or them filing a complaint or calling the police, both of which could have ramifications down the line.

It’s a soft skill, sure, but it greases so many wheels I can’t even begin to detail.

My yard is kept tidy. It’s not finished, sculpted, or anything much special. But it’s on purpose. Not always clean, I usually have some construction or project I’m working on, but that’s always temporary. Im generally reclusive. I’d rather build my stuff and sell what Ive made or build for someone else and be left alone. But I’m always offering to help everyone with their projects. Rarely taken up, but like clockwork, I always extend help.

My obvious display of care over what’s under my supervision is, honestly, defensive. I get the benefit of the doubt. My neighbors don’t sick code enforcement on me, regardless of what I’m doing (which is all within code regardless, but county given the call will come out, Everytime.)

Again, it’s a soft skill. A subtle thing, but it’ll help you stand out, unconsciously at the very least.

  • Brother I’ve been thru my share, let me tell you.

Shit July 6th my home burnt down. Everything. Lost. Wife woke me up at 5am pushing me screaming FIRE

I look up, entire wall and ceiling are already burning. We run out, 60secs later the roof collapsed where we were sleeping.

That’s just the latest of challenges this life has thrown my way. Clearly I’m playing the master quest. It’s just back to back boss battles at this point with no time to heal or save in-between.

Yr first sentence is what led me to my advocating for advocacy. An idea that, might possibly be getting spread elsewhere, but it’s entirely absent in my life.

And so, be the change you want to see, right? I’ve spotted a void, that means I also have a chance to fill it for those behind me. My personal ethos; I consider it an obligation to do so. If you spot the problem, you’ve also inherited the responsibility to act on it. Cuz fuck you entropy, not today.

You second thought I actually disagree with and I’ll tell you the distinctions that allowed me to grow beyond that pov.

    • No one can know everything, we aren’t alive long enough, it’s a physical impossibility. Be quick to admit your limits, and abandon wrong positions, without shame, the moment you know better. It’s better to adhere to the truth than to your ego. You can’t build anything solid off falsehoods, or ego. Any solid foundations are built off truth.

    • Denying help from someone else does NOT make you look better, more competent or stronger. It makes you alone.

    And forgotten.

No one, including you, will waste space remembering your misallocation of stoicism. BEYOND THAT; you actively harm your relationship with whoever offered, by refusing to allow for it to grow by accepting help. You also deny them the chance to be their best self, which I think we subconsciouly learn to resent people for. Accepting help, and legitimately offering it, is pro-social, which we humans are. Therefore, it’s the only moral response (morality being entirely built of behavior that reinforces and strengthens the tribe).

    • If you can’t help yourself, help someone else.

    1. It’ll take your mind off your problems, giving yourself a probably much needed break.
    2. All you life inputs have led you to dead end. You need inputs from outside your normal routine. In other words, you don’t have the answer, or know where to look, so open yrself up to new avenues, experiences and people. Go look for your answer in the unknown.

    • If your life sucks and you don’t do anything about it, you are accepting the same outcome. “Better the devil you know” =bullshit. Accepting suffering will crush your spirit and kill yr soul. Depression, anxiety, all kinds of ways it will manifest. Doing something drastic that you have no idea how it will turn out =at least you have hope then. If known A = guaranteed suck. Unknown B has the chance to be better. It might not be, but when shit sucks does it matter what color the shit is? Go bravely into the night.

    • It’s better to die on your feet than live on your knees. You are who you are. You don’t need any approval or acceptance to exist. Looking for it actually makes it less likely you’d receive it regardless.

With all that said there’s finally this • When you arrive at rock bottom, no one else is there. And no one is going to help you while ur there. Until they see you climbing out. We’ve all been burned. We’ve all been taken advantage of. People naturally help in times of catastrophe. People WANT to help. But people, generally, are walking bags of Capitalism PTSD. It’s like finding love, you only find it when your busy improving yourself. People want to be there on the accent.

Life teaches you how to discern, you develop eyes to only help those who’ll appreciate it and not squander it. It’s part of the wisdom that can only come with age.

I expause advocacy because those of us who can see it and appreciate it for what it is can help each other not have to slide so far back =itll speed up the progress of all of our individual journeys.

There’s much more experience gained, imo, from helping others than receiving help. But Graciousness is often overlooked and it’s a scalable attribute all in itself. We all need to sink more proficiency points into exercising Grace and being Gracious. All of us. Myself included.

It’s no mistake that when we see mastery (of anything) in action we describe it as being Graceful.

  • Imagine a team lead calling other businesses for opportunities for you because you’ve hit the glass ceiling at your work.

    Does that seem impossible? implausible?

For most, yea. Yes it does. Losing a valued member at a company will cost a company, sure. But when that member goes and works for competitors with that experience to tell, your stock amongst peers shoots up 1000%. Reputation like this is from principle, not principals. It’s an earned investment

If youve experienced anything like this, you know how memorable that exp is.

There are few things in life as meaningful as an advocate. And I mean that. Maybe one or two things best it. It’s that important to all life as it is experienced. If the word doesn’t mean much to you - and to most it doesn’t - rethink what you know about it. Refamiliarize yourself with that knowledge sphere. Imagine challanging situations you’ve had in the past. Imagine someone there with you advocating for you. Imagine how that changes a situation. How it couldve changed the outcome. How it would’ve changed you.

Now imagine what it’s like to BE the one advocating for someone else. The relaxed kind of pride when they succeed where they didn’t think they could. The emotional warmth you feel from the fire of their happiness or achievement.

That’s the supervisor to be. That’s the coworker to be. That’s the family to be. That’s the person to be.

Any interaction, be it personal, familial, academic or professional, that isn’t foundationally built from ideation of support, I suggest you remove from your life.

But to surround yourself in support means you’ve also got to be supportive. Hence; my take on advocacy.
