Token Ring is a network protocol where a token—a small data packet—circulates around a ring topology, allowing only the device holding the token to transmit data, thus avoiding collisions. We played Doom and Quake.

I remember getting a copy of linux from my friends at a local LAN party (though it was tokenring party for us) around ‘96. 2 floppy disks. I’m 99% sure it was slackware.

But I don’t use their tunnel products, I just expose my ports to only their known IPs. With cloudflare you have a nice “free” waf in front with tls that points to a secure(nginx proxy) or unsecured docker container. Audiobookshelf is a great example. Is best to use their dns product too, for easy management of your public facing sites.
I can go days without. But I spend maybe 2-4 hours a day. Sadly I work remote, so I get bored. But during holidays and staycations, I hardly pick up my phone, let alone a laptop. 30. 30 is my addiction number.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What access points do you use?English7·7 months ago+1 on this. Though i picked up 2 u7’s. VLAN support, easy to maintain and lets face it, superior function from most retail APs. If you’re a power user, this is the way.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many pairs of sunglasses do you think you've owned in your lifetime?English2·10 months agoI have 5 pairs of Oakley square wire sunglasses that I’ve owned for almost 3 decades. Bought most of them with my first paycheck. I just replace the ear socks and nose pieces, and one pair has replacement lenses. I have never owned any other pairs.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•After a death, do you delete the contact? Or let it sit in address book?English12·10 months agoI saved them, adding death anniversary so I could remember them. Bit morbid but they meant a lot to me.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I'm drunk, so I'm not gonna do it, but I'm wonderingEnglish8·11 months agoMy ex wife did this last month. But she wasn’t drunk, nor was it just a text. I received a pic of her nude bottom half and the text: open if you want to visit.
I left it on “read”.
Amicable or not, this is just using the other person.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What will you do if there's a second civil war in the US?English2·1 year agoWe shall hide in our secret places. Yes, hide.
That is the phonetic spelling of how you’re supposed to say SUSE. It’s. SUSAhhh, like appaloosa. I know this because I watch that goofy video on youtube.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a Linkedin equivalent that is federated?English101·1 year agoSounds like you are either not the target market or have no idea how to use LinkedIn. Properly used, you as a candidate have an arsenal of info you wouldn’t otherwise have, and the same for the company who can see your posts, your connections, your job history. It’s professional Facebook, all the grownups use it and it’s not just about connecting with people you don’t care about.
This is about building connections you can use later in life. Trust me, connect with that fuckwit John from sales, cause in 5 years he’ll be the guy that can connect you with the recruiter at the company you’ve applied with. You don’t need to like him or be best friends. This is business, not the playground.
My dog does this but also shows me her butt, which is an indicator for “come chase me dad”. Its cute, until its not. Heh
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•the fear of missing out a better compressionEnglish101·1 year agoSlower, yes. More compression, yes. Stupid, no. tar serves a purpose beyond persevering permissions.
‘rm -rf /*’ for the win. I was on a production system when I learned I used that combo far too much. Thankfully, lots were deleted and my crimes were never detected.
Uhh. I was inspired by a manager.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looks like google domains is no more.English01·2 years agoHonestly, nothing. But they’ve been having more network and dns issues, which caused resolution issues. So I’m moving away entirely.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looks like google domains is no more.English01·2 years agoNo idea. I moved my personal .dev over and that was fine. But I pay for a premium .dev domain and can’t move that yet. No explanation from Cloudflare.
Stupidmanager@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looks like google domains is no more.English01·2 years agoCloudflare is just that. It supports most domains except for premium .dev (for now) from google. Registrar costs are at cost and no markup. Lots of options, no pressure to do anything beyond free.
Next option is Namecheap, but they’ve had issues lately.
Yeah, sorry. Nerded out there for a sec on description. I don’t remember the lag that much, doom was ok. I think we all upgraded to 10Base-T ethernet (you remember the bnc stuff) after playing quake and host tended to have the gaming advantage. A few of us worked at a pc repair shop, so we could source (aka borrow) the parts if we couldn’t afford to buy them.
A few laters Quake world came out, someone finally popped for a hub and we all had 100mbit cards installed. But around then, we got @HOME in my neighborhood and gamespy was my new friend. I hated hauling my whole setup once a month after a year or so.
