Normally I would just let it slide, but I’m bored so why not have some discourse :)

    1. I do not own fire arms personally due to mental health issues. I do carry pepper spray and have a taser readily available. Worst case scenario a bow I use for hunting.

    2. There are legitimate uses for fire arms full stop. Protection against bodily threats, hunting, tyrannical government, etc.

    3. I support universal background checks and “common sense gun regulation”. It is a dangerous tool, but it is still just a tool. I’d love to see mandatory fire arm safety training before attempting to buy a gun.

    4. Workers rights are bogged down because of hierarchical systems designed towards uplifting the few and the expense of the many.

Why should the government have exclusive use of violence? In any case, the eventual goal (for me personally and people like me) is peace and liberty. Until that happens the working class must have access to fire arms. The people who should not own guns are those with mental health issues, and access should be limited to trained/responsible individuals.

  • I like the federation for interacting with people in a way that’s similar to previous social media sites, but without the bloat and advertising.

It’s also nice to not have to deal with the extreme political rhetoric unless I specifically look for it, such as HexBear or .ML instances.

My mastodon is mostly queer/alternative folk and I share my music and exploits online diary style.

Lemmy is mostly how I used Reddit, but I’m less of a lurker here.

Maker tube (Peertube) is cool because I can watch, make, or share videos like YouTube used to be before the commercialization.

TanukiTunes (FunkWhale) is awesome because I can upload my own music or listen to music without having to fork over data, and I can donate/purchase music directly through the profile’s preferred method instead of Spotify hellscape.

I’ll eventually get a Pixelfed for my photography exploits. I occasionally use Mastodon to share cool pics I find.

All in all, Federation is my net home. Love it

  • I’m a 4chan anon and have been for a long time. It’s a Wild West situation still due to the anon culture. A LOT OF STUFF ON THERE IS EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE AND WRONG. Oddly enough I’ve interacted with some awesome anons and that’s what keeps me going back. Highly DONT recommend anyone check the site out.

Reddit used to be fucking dope when I joined in 2012. I was a Digg enjoyer in my youth and Reddit was even better for me. Over time the culture changed, not necessarily a bad thing either just different. Helped me a lot actually become a better more inclusive human. The Admins however have made a string of terrible decisions and I can no longer support the site. They hung the redditors out to dry and I’m so thankful for Lemmy for giving us a link aggregator with a comment section sans the bullshit.

  • Hey I’m a musician/creator actually! I’m attempting to be the change I wish to see! I haven’t shared anything here because I treat Lemmy as more discussion oriented but on Mastodon I’ve shared my first Peertube upload.

I just refuse to be like those “pick me” people who are only on a platform in hopes of building their “brand”. I truly want to make friends here and if they happen to like my tunes when I occasionally share them that’s fucking dope for me. I’m seeing quite a few people like me too who are using the federation as more than the grind for fame. Overtime we will get the pick me’s, but I think we will get a lot of decent artists in it for artistry sake
