Well, good news the newest update to Freetube now adds 4K+ support since they changed the library used to get the videos or something. I have tested it and the video says 4K and seems to be that. Feel free to correct me if you try the latest update and find any discrepancies.

Which version of Newpipe are you using? You’ll want to use their latest release repository rather than the ‘stable’ one, that seems to make it work.

Most will likely block the adverts anyway, so I fail to see how it’ll make money that way.

As with reddit / lemmy, I doubt a viable alternative will emerge until youtube has become well and truly offensive.

Even after it has this is very unlikely because part of the appeal of youtube is getting paid for work and most people either don’t have the money to pay for it, choose not to or hate the platforms through which creators ask to get paid through.

Like it or not, either it’ll be another tech company who will later do this exact same thing or we need more people willing to pay and less shitty platforms through which they can do so i.e. not VC backed/supported.

Because none of them have all features.

My favourites however are Fractal for desktop and Fluffychat for mobile because they both allow for multiple accounts in one window/app and they look nice, and Fluffychat has features that make it more customisable.
