Any tips for someone who would want to emigrate, but doesn’t have any connections? I am an engineer and I have looked at immigration requirements for places like Canada and New Zeeland in the past and it seems like the only real shot I might have is if I work for an international company that has facilities in one of those countries.

My Fairphone 5 had it in Android 13 and my Zenfone 6 had it in Android 12.

I would have to disagree for the city and state that I live in. Google Maps is much more accurate and up to date than OSM and the directions are better too. Not to mention sometimes knowing to route around construction and whatnot. OSM and whether it’s better than Google Maps seems to be very region dependent.

I contribute when and where I can but there isn’t a huge user base here.

My brother in Christ and all his disciples, can we just go back to the quick settings from Android 11 that is accessible when holding and using the phone with one hand and has more than 4 options? Or, and I know this sounds CRAZY, give users a choice? If you are going to harp on Apple about locking their ecosystem down, then when you introduce new methods of navigation keep some way of going back to the old way.

I can even do this in the shit box that is Windows 11. I finally had to use and interact with it for the first time this week, and with the installation of two programs I was able to get the start menu, taskbar, and right click menu back to the way I want. Even installing Lineage OS on my phone can’t get me back to the old quick settings tiles as far as I am aware of.

Not just that, but they are actively hostile and hypocritical about it. Every 1-3 months they prevent RCS from working on rooted phones or phones running alternate ROMs. The fact that they spent so much time complaining that Apple wouldn’t comply with the “open” standard while limiting users’ options on their own platform is very frustrating.

Just want to let you know that you aren’t alone. I have talked to a number of women who advocate for things like DEI and acceptance (which is something I also believe quite strongly in) but often default to preferring more traditional gender norms in dating. When pressed on the issue (not like I’m interrogating them just through normal conversations and getting to know them) they will inevitably say that it is ultimately “just their preference”.

What I find so odd about that “preference” is if a man behaves in accordance with the traditional/societal gender norms in the beginning of the courting process, why is it surprising that they do the same thing later in the relationship when it comes to sharing emotional labor or various types of household chores?

I know the below is taking it to a bit of an extreme example but that behavior and “preference” often reminds me the sentiment “the only moral abortion is my abortion”. Like I get it, there are a lot of shitty people out there who have no interest in putting in the effort, and they absolutely are not worth the time and effort, but when you do meet someone who is willing to put in that effort, it isn’t really fair to treat them like all those other people.

But they will still be blocking rooted users or users of alternative operating systems from using RCS, all while they complain about how Apple should implement RCS.

The super duper shitty thing is that they could have canceled it by opening the Run dialog box and typing “shutdown -a”, so it’s not even like canceling wasn’t an option. M$ just decided to be dicks about it

If memory serves, the bump from a “standard” new video game costing $50 to $60 happened around 2010. Accounting for inflation that $60 is a little over $70, so it doesn’t seem entirely unreasonable for them to be $70 even if I don’t like it.

It might be a bit overboard, but I have a Redmine instance running on my NAS that can likely do everything you want. Some out if the box, some with plugins. It’s pretty nice. If you don’t want to worry about installing it you can download a complete installer from Bitnami.

And as everyone knows, the key to accessibility is not having options or variations of any kind!

I just want the option to have my quick access icons be circular buttons and not this massive blob BS. I got pretty used to having like 20 (maybe a couple less) things that were all accessible from a single spot. It was nice.

What are you on about? Just because someone is in a minority doesn’t mean their preferences or desires are invalid. Infeasible maybe, but not invalid. There are all sorts of products made for people in a minority of some kind. I can’t imagine left handed versions of common right handed objects are an extremely lucrative market, but there are products that exist for those minorities.

Plus it’s not like minorities or majorities are ever static, things evolve and change over time. If no one ever voiced an opinion, how would anything ever change?

You can keep crying about people stating a preference, and I’ll be sure to keep reminding you they are as free say what they want as you are.

There is more to it than though, that’s why being able to explore profiles is important. You can see the questions they answered and how which allows you to make decisions and inferences. Sure it had flaws, but it was leaps and bounds better than anything today including it’s own current iteration. The closest is probably Hinge, but even that is Tinderfied.

Been using OkC for almost that long on and off now. The quizzes and questions still exist, but they have been tokenized since OkC now shows you people the same way Tinder does and doesn’t have any ability to explore people and profiles the way you used to be able to back in the date. It’s so frustrating!
