Ehh. What’s the average age around here? I’m guessing it wasn’t the youth that migrated from Reddit.

My hometown was in Canada’s top-ten communities in decline for years. These days, it’s got two-thirds the population it used to, the streets are full of deer, and quite a few farmers’ fields have turned into forests. Almost everyone my age that I knew moved away long ago. Going back is always shocking.
I’m (well, I like to think I’m) a very stable person, and it freaked me right out.
More people should code Csound. Doesn’t matter if you’re musically inclined or not. Just do it. Make weird noises. Have fun!
Anyone remember the early Windows 10 update that booted back up with a black screen that said “Don’t Panic”?
That was the most panic inducing moment I’ve ever had with any PC.
Teaching is very rewarding, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that some days I really want to never see a child again.
I’m an ESL instructor in South Korea. My situation did not happen overnight. I’d worked in quite a few different private and public schools before this opportunity presented itself.
Yes! Self-employed, four-day work weeks, 4-6 hours a day. Enough money to be comfortable and to put some away for later. I have to clean the place by myself on that weekday off, but that’s fine. Cathartic even.
I’m using a 2060 with Mint with no problems. Well, short of the game I’m playing (Enshrouded) needing to validate its install every single time I open Steam, but I suspect that’s on Steam.
Other Tragically Hip albums have some standout tracks, but the only album of theirs I really enjoy beginning-to-end is Fully Completely.
Hear hear. I’ve been using the same cheapo Mackie CR4 monitors for nearly a decade now. It’s not like a $1000 pair is going to sound much better in my room without a bunch of baffling or whatever.
We all get the GAS sometimes.
I just wish he’d gotten tired of his Moog Grandmother. Haha!
I hear you. A buddy gave me a $1000 headphone amp he’d replaced with a newer version. It’s the most expensive piece of gear I own and hilariously out of place in my set up. I still use it, though.
So many bedroom audio producers are all about having the latest and greatest gear, and then don’t make shit beyond a tech demo or two. There’s nothing wrong with that I suppose. It just seems a bit odd to me to collect a pile of expensive, useful tools, and then not even use them.
Or not even know how to use them. I remember one guy in particular. He had a $10000 Moog One, and used it to make a piece of music where he held an A minor chord for 20 minutes. There was almost no modulation or movement at all. Just the same chord for twenty minutes. I like outre music, but come on!
Do I need a mold or something? Can I just buy a tube of resin and use a cup I don’t care about?
This also deserves consideration. More eco-friendly, and it gives me a chance to practice my desoldering skills.
Worse. A classroom.
That’s good to know. I suppose most of us not knowing this is a good indicator of the average age around here. I think the last time I installed Windows from scratch was 7…
Nope. And I remember a time when there weren’t any ads. Or images for that matter. And I had to run software in DOS. Things are definitely both better and worse, now.
