Wahots@pawb.socialto Android@lemdro.id•Samsung is about to find out if Ultra is enoughEnglish6·7 days agoI like foldables, but I won’t be getting another one until Samsung and other OEMs dramatically overhaul their design and durability. When a ribbon connector went bad, they required repair companies to replace the two screens and hinge, a $600 repair on a phone worth $400. The ribbon connector is a 20¢ component, if that. I ended up getting a Motorola on sale for $250 that can do most of what high end flagships can do.
I always recommend this site: https://theteahouseltd.com/
We’ve visited them in person and their tea was so fantastic that even non-tea people loved it. They ship worldwide. I tend to order in bulk these years.
Only one tea has ever come close, and it was a small Asian restaurant out of Vancouver, BC. This store has dozens of amazing varieties.
We just have an instant hot water tap. Can’t live without it, haha.
Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the worst apartment you've ever lived in?18·16 days agoI lived too close to a hospital. Apparently, the road I lived next to was the road that all fire, EMS, and police used. Tons of sirens at all hours of the night and day. I toured the place on a quiet day, so it never occurred to me about the noise. That was a bit of a suffer fest.
One funny thing about that place, someone always swore consistently on the street between 17:00-20:00 each evening. It was always someone new, but it was like clockwork. Guests wouldn’t believe it at first, but it became a thing, lol. Sometimes it was someone on a skateboard eating shit in the protected bike lane, other times it was a pissed off pedestrian, someone having an argument, someone having fun, or someone clearly off their medication. No apartment has had that before or since.
Sweater weather. I already didn’t like the downtempo vibe, but it got painfully overplayed back in the day. Unfortunately, I still hear it occasionally. Anything but that, please.

Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What architectural style would you like to see come back?1·22 days agoFrutiger Aero was heavily used in Elite Dangerous for a faction’s ships. I love that look! Didn’t realize it had a name.

Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A game you "didn't know it was bad 'til people told you so"?2·28 days agoBattlefield 1, I liked its slower-paced combat and need for teamwork for things like ships and the heavy bomber (original, not the super heavy).
It was different than almost all contemporary shooters, and I really found that refreshing. It also had a strong art design and really looked the part for WW1, even if some of the weapons were prototypes or team weapons (which should have been cut, imo) or vehicles were tweaked for gameplay (understandable, the German tanks were extremely tippy, and the French tanks were slower IRL)
Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are other countries as nationalistic/"patriotic" as the US?4·29 days agoTurkmenistan has some amazing propaganda and surprisingly, interesting music on the propaganda channels. Never would want to go there, though.
The fuzzy hat horse sing-along segment goes surprisingly hard? 16:31, pre-stamped:
Nazis are like invasive weeds. They grow whenever the land is fertile, but are otherwise dormant when the land isn’t conducive to them.

Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do, relatively, so few of you set an avatar for your profile?3·2 months agoI can’t remember if I even bothered setting one. My app doesn’t use them. I don’t find them particularly useful on forums anyways. I only like them on real time chat apps where I know I’ll be interacting with the same folks over and over again.
Edit: I did set one up!
Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•would you rather retire or cryogenically freeze yourself to see a new world?2·2 months agoCan we freeze someone else? I think we could fix things tbh.
Yes. My meat thermometer is a fire and forget type where it automatically shuts off the heat once it reaches a certain temperature or preconfigured meat setting. It makes the air fryer a wonderful appliance when working on other foods simultaneously. Plus, I don’t have to worry about unsafe temps, or overcooked food.
Wahots@pawb.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Pros/cons to legalize marijuana in a country122·2 months agoI voted to legalize it because it’s stupid to arrest people for it. That said, I hate the constant smell in public, and people seem to get addicted to it quite easily. It’s a pox on society, imo. At the end of the day, we have much larger problems on our hands.
For LGBTQ rights? Definitely. For the climate? Way worse. Politically? Way worse. Economically… I’d way we are in a big bubble like the roaring 20s before the great depression. And when it pops, it’s gonna be bad, thanks to idiot voters and corrupt Republicans.
Government-wise…things are not looking good. It will take a very long time to rebuild.
Now…state-wise, I know my state is way better off than it was 30 years ago, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t about to get slammed by braindead antics of the federal government. But we have made a lot of infrastructure investments that are paying off locally. The future of America will be exclusively in states that put a premium on science and progress.
