The things you listed is what society wants you to do, not what you want to do. Do some hard thinking what YOU want to do with your life and what is important to you; nothing else will give you peace and fulfillment. You can set some long term goals if you want, but from experience i tell you to start with something small and keep that up, that’s hard enough as it is.
If what you achieve and what you want is not the same, you will not be happy at all.
i know what you are going through, i am going to install linux on my current pc (when i worked up enough bravery… well at least i already created the boot media). I have already experience selfhosting services with Debian (in the time before Docker), but since gaming is what this PC is built for and i have a NVidia card that´s a pretty poor choice from what i gathered here.
Over the last few months i was thinking about going with Pop_OS (“i really really didn’t like Gnome the last time i had to deal with it”), then Arch (“Do i really want to shoot myself in the foot? There’s archinstall, but i really don’t want to tinker too much on this machine…”), and now i settled for Nobara (the “gaming” Fedora so to speak, using KDE per default).
I’m now 99% sure that it should be the right one for me, but the thought of doing it makes me quite nervous.
i’m still looking for alternatives for a few windows programs; the main one i will miss dearly is Playnite. There seems to be nothing that offers the integration of all my libraries, my ROMs and emulators, automatic downloading of metadata and boxart, achievements, start scripts for games … i could go on forever :-(
tell that my mouse driver, the soundblaster driver and the cdrom driver fighting over every single byte of that precious ram 😩
i propose to create a menu in which you can define what batchfiles to run in what order. its been a while since i worked with batch files, but if memory serves right, that should be doable, no?
To address the blocking issue, i propose a vibrating (and cushioned) funnel to make sure that the linux users get to the turbine in single file. this keeps the system simpler and helps the linux users pass more easily, because it adheres to the UNIX philosophy of doing just one thing, which works as a lubricant.
Walking while concentrating on what i feel in different parts of my body helps me in high stress situations, and longer walks once in a while when I’m not completely stressed out helps clear my mind. swimming in thermal water also helps keep my overall stress level down when I’ve got enough capacity left to actually do it.
so yeah, the right exercise customised to my actual capacity to do exercise helps a lot - but i have to allow myself to just stop doing it without beating myself up if I’m not up to it.
i agree, my eyes are pretty good, but this is not useable. funnily enough my chosen lemmy frontend (alexandrite) would fix the colors, but its too small to read; and when you open the image in a new tab to zoom in, the colors are unuseable.

start blocking users and communities you don’t care about, or you can auto-ignore bot users in your profile; both options should help you out quickly.
I would answer that with yes, because it has (video)posts, comments, likes, follows etc.
but i agree that it’s an edge case, because many aren’t using it like social media

Its hostile towards Lemmy admins, who already told you that your spamming techniques generate as much load as the largest instances. also, since your “content” gets federated to other instances, your legal liability might become theirs too.
Its hostile towards Lemmy users, who see lots of botspam which they cannot filter currently since the users you generate have to be blocked one by one.
Its hostile towards Reddit users, who get their created content and USERNAMES copied without given consent.
I also use “All”! I like seeing what others in the fediverse are up to, as long as it’s authentic discourse. I don’t care if it gets smaller currently. The quality is fine, and since most growth in fediverse projects come in spurs, i am not even slightly worried. I have also been attracted for more than a month, and since the discourse is authentic, i engage more than i ever did on reddit.

Yes, they were effective. Lemmy got a fresh infusion of users, and its not even how many, but WHO we got! We got especially the people who think for themselves and who are not apathetic towards bad moves; people who cared about their communities. This also explains why you get so much pushback. It does not sit well with them (and me) because it is in line with what Meta, Reddit or Google would do.
I don’t think a “war” against big tech is Lemmys primary use case. Lemmy is there to bring people together and is doing a fine job of that, for a project that was not really ready at the time of the protest. I haven’t seen people call for a war in the last months - raising awareness, yes; but ultimately the message should be a positive one - this is what makes Lemmy stand out from the “competition”.

you are using strategies of a megacorp with a reputation of crapping all over everything the fediverse stands for. i would recommend you start less doing and more thinking, and not on a technical level, but on the morality of your decisions. as you can see in the overwhelming negative responses (except for the ppl using you as their personal reddit-rss-feed) and the defederations, your actions already lead to the isolation of your instance, which will hurt your users too.
ETA: just wanted you to know that do think that your service is neither GDPR-compliant nor CCPA-compliant. i don’t know if you checked with your lawyer before, but i’m pretty sure you don’t have a process for deletion requests, since you don’t have a privacy policy posted, which is where that info should be if you had any to give. (The data you copied over is another can of problems, namely reddits lawyers, who probably reserve all rights to make your life pretty sucky)
lets be honest: if someone were to post on reddit, and that webscraper copies the post and THEIR USERNAME onto an alternative service without prior consent, what is the reaction you should expect?
a) oh wow thats helpful thank you very much i will now drop reddit forever
or
b) your post and account stealing crapshoot of a server can go die in a ditch for all i care
i can assure you, most people will choose b), and even people who might have chosen a) will first hear about it from the pissed off group.
I believe your activism comes from the right place, but i think it’s actively harmful, even if you ignore that it annoys people in the fediverse itself.
But switching out the knife would not be ecological. the last 100 billionaires would probably prefer a spoon.
