Its not. I’m writing this on a Note 8 with Android 9. It can run 99% of Apps on the Playstore, has an up to date browser and even gets access to new features like Google Lens, Gemini or Quickshare. Would it be nice to have Android 14? Yes. Does it need Android 14? eh not really.
I think this causes infinitly more issues than just installing it. But I agree, all these “apps” could and should be regular webapps.
This is what I envisioned with “foldables”.
yeah great, EDL mode still is exists…
They still make Tablets? I have one from like 2016 that isn’t even horrible.
Marketing and availablity. Unless you watch Phonereviews you probably have no idea these phones exist.
no I don’t
Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. If I understand it correctly, there is no way to really prevent these Apps from “running” in the background, although “running” just means they sit idle in memory 99.9% of time and don’t do anything unless a broadcast event they are subscribed to gets fired and then they are permitted to do small task.
So I guess the most likely issue is that either something else on the phone is causing this drain or that some App constantly gets restarted (which is expensive) for some reason instead of just staying idle in memory.
thanks, I will give the work profile route a try since I’m not aware of any ways to root my phone (LG G8X)
I have done that but there are certain Services like my Bank or Phone provide that require me to installiert their App. Also with others - Kleinanzeigen, the mobile website is horrible and thus kinda force me to use the App.
in the case of the Microsoft copilot app, yes obviously, but there are some Apps which I need like for my bank.

I mean its great that it is repairable, but not so much if pretty much everything else is a compromise for the MSRP.
these days unless you have a very popular Samsung, Oneplus or a Pixel you usually don’t have much choice.
one of the most underrated tools i.m.o. I have a lighttpd webserver with librespeed on my usb and its such a great tool to check if a slow network is due to issues with the local network or the internet.
how about no
You never can have both, a fast SoC that will be performing well in 5 years and repairability.
they are kind of the mob boss of anything cellular who collects protection money from anyone who wants to do buisness.
Since its using YT Music in the background, its not 100% reliable. Youtube changes small stuff on their site and API from time to time which breaks these Apps. Happens once every couple of weeks. Just be aware of that!
