Not in any texting app I’ve seen. My MMS groups in Google Messages don’t let me name the group for everyone.

Redditor Dane Gleessak noted that if someone with an Android phone changes the name of a group text, the name will be changed for iOS users in the group text as well. That’s a major change compared to Google Messages on Android, which allows you to rename group texts for your eyes only.
That last part isn’t true, you’ve been able to rename RCS group chats for everyone for a long time. If you try to change the name, it even warns you that everyone else will see it. My parents both have Android phones, so I have an RCS group chat with them, and any changes I make to our group name will appear for them too.
If you’ve never had an RCS group chat before, which would have previously required every member to be using Android, I can see why someone might think this is a new feature though. Prior to the new iOS update, if you had an iPhone in the chat, things would fall-back to using MMS, which doesn’t support group names, so only you would see it.
I bought an LG Wing on eBay for cheap after LG left the phone business. The intent was to upgrade from my previous phone. I managed to tolerate it for only a week before crawling back to my old phone.
Finally, the End of all things.

But why? We don’t pronounce any other acronyms like that, so why treat GIF different? The U in SCUBA isn’t pronounced like it is in Underwater. The first A in CAPTCHA isn’t pronounced the same as in Automated and the CH isn’t split up to be pronounced like Computer and Human. The second A in NASA isn’t pronounced like in Administration and the I in PIN doesn’t get pronounced like Identification.
We read acronyms as their own words, not as a collection of the first sounds of each constituent word.
There are so many other acronyms where you don’t pronounce every letter the same as their constituent words, I don’t understand why GIF is the one people have a problem with accepting. SCUBA, NASA, CAPTCHA, OWCA, etc.
What does this mean?
The Unangan, who were the first to inhabit the island of Unalaska, named it “Ounalashka”, meaning “near the peninsula”.
I just had to know how this town in Alaska ended up named Unalaska.
I don’t want to disable all automatic updates though. I still want my apps to update, I just want the Play Store to stop updating the one app that the Amazon App store should be updating because the version the Play Store installs every time it does is worse.
Nope it does it in the background all on its own and it completes it just fine unfortunately. I found how to disable automatic updates for a specific app now though, so at least I won’t have to worry about it anymore.
Do they not already? I’m fucking tired of the Play Store “updating” the sideloaded version of the Kindle app (the one that comes from the Amazon App Store and lets you actually buy ebooks) to the version on Google Play (which only lets you read ebooks you bought outside the app).

Just Jellyfin and modded Minecraft right now. Nothing super interesting, but great fun.
I’m using SSH to interact with the Minecraft server in tmux, and the web interface for Jellyfin.
The .com of my last name is taken by an actual business. Fine, no issue there. The .net of my last name however is being squatted on by Hover, who seems to have done the same with tons of last name domains and are selling email addresses on them in the form of firstname@lastname.net. The .org of my last name is currently redirecting to the .xyz of my last name, which looks like a family’s personal website that lists their address and phone number as a header at the top of the page.
It didn’t really specify that, so I read it as the author implying that Android users need to be careful now because even though other Android users can’t see your group names, iOS users now can.
They say
Which sounds like the author is thinking about this backwards. The iOS update didn’t extend the group renaming feature to Android users, iOS actually added Android’s group renaming feature. For a while now, as long as everyone in your group was using an Android device with RCS, they could all see and change the group name. I think the author must not have realized that this was a thing until now because it was less likely for every group member to be on Android than it was for them to all be on iOS.
