I dated a vegetarian, and I love to cook. It was wild how little it took to break through the “meatless” thing. We didn’t last but I kept the skillset, and eat vegetarian at least a few nights of the week.

I love being able to taste things at every stage without worry about food safety. Like if I don’t think a sauce is quite right, I can always try a bit. Once you kind of break through, meat freaks you out a bit… and I still eat meat!

Edit: I’ll also add: giving up cheese and eggs would be hard as hell though… I get where that would be more exciting than meat.

Sure, but there are loads of medical conditions with less than ideal names (a particularly severe structure is caused by a gene literally named Sonic the hedgehog). The clinical name might be important in a clinical setting but that’s not where most of us interreact with people. I’m just going with what I’ve known people to prefer.

… I had never thought about it this way. You’re totally correct though. I spend way more time fighting with my windows machine than I do my linux these days. I also just have a lot less patience fighting it because it’s always due to some dumb shit it didn’t need to be doing in the first place.

I generally don’t have a sweet tooth, and things like potato chips don’t have that umami I like. I try to keep snacks around because I forget to eat, but nothing appeals to me. But man… all those pre-packaged tofu squares, various bits of marinated meat… that’s my deal. There’s one solid “Asian Mart” near me, I’ll stock up a few months worth at a time.

Closest you get in the US is basically jerky/slim jims, which are great but expensive and kind of one note for flavor.

As a tip, it’s not quite as convenient but most hotels will let you check a bag with them, even if you’re not a guest. I’ve done that at different conferences (usually 1st day and/or last day) when I had a day left, didn’t want to haul my bag, but couldn’t go to from my hotel. I think I got turned down once and it was simply because they were full.

Boffing some of the details here but: poor dude with the last name “Noid” also happened to be some kind of skitzophrenic. So unlike many people struggling with that, people really WERE talking about him… Kinda…

Poor bastard had a multimillion dollar ad campaign with radio, tv, bus stops saying “avoid the noid” which to him was “avoid this man!”. If he was receiving help, he would have heard those ads on his way home from his appointments. He would have junk mail through his slot with anti-noid propaganda.

Anyway he took a dominoes hostage. He released all the hostages I think he was the only victim. Just one of those insane things, like anyone else with that surname it would have been a material for their tight five stand up bit a decade later, but in this case it lined up with a man struggling with the exact mental disorder that made it the worst thing possible. I mentioned this in another thread on CQ, but can you imagine getting brought into that kickoff meeting and just thinking “great, another soulless marketing game” and then realizing everyone including the client is on board with you making THAT.

Its not like it broke any real new ground (other than a bar for promotional give aways) but in a time when crappy doom clones were a dime a dozen… CQ went HARD.

I’m newer to linux, and kind of a moron, but I 1) bounced off Ubuntu and 2) haven’t seen this crap with Debian.

On the flip side of this, I noticed “master of puppets” in last season of stranger things was a small bit different. Our boy Eddie was playing it.

Even as someone who spends a good amount of time at the range, I never thought of this until Bill Burr did that bit about why he has a smaller pistol for home.

It didn’t ruin John Wick, but any of the indoor scenes, especially the one where they’ll have low gravely emotionally loaded dialogue… I have a hard time suspending my disbelief.
