Speaking as an American, I hate how our government runs, there are tons of issues with it, and I do what I can’t to help fix it. Like the majority of us are not happy, but we have not collectively done these things, most of the terrible things that have happened in America are the machinations of a wealthy elite who have been able to shape voting districts and policy thanks to continually laxing regulations and unfettered capitalism.
I was just born here, I didn’t make this place. This place isn’t what I want it to be. Just line any other country, we are all just people trying to live and get something out of life. With the way the education system is here most people don’t even realize how ass backwards things are because “that’s how it’s always been” for them. It’s upsetting. But it doesn’t make them bad people, just naive usually. This is why things like intersectionality and critical race theory are so important and this is why the far right in this country is pushing against them. The issues in America boil down to race and class based inequality, intentional defunding of public programs, and then miseducation of the populous on these issues and how they actually affect everyone. I promise you those of us who understand all this are doing everything we can do reverse course. Personally everything happening here weighs on me heavily and I often forget to enjoy what’s right in front of me because the big picture is so scary. It’s stressful as fuck.
THAT’S WHATS DRAINING MY BATTERY! I’ve been trying to figure it out, I knew it was draining quicker because of that but never really our two and two together
After checking it seems to be within the password manager I use, 1password’s settings, but I think? Bitwarden has a similar setting
I have the password manager set to show as a drop-down below the password blank itself rather than in a bar above the keyboard and it seems to work pretty well
When I installed pop! Os (on my ssd) it was laggy and a little glitchy, it’s like the whole os would just freeze up sometimes. It really got on my nerves. I prefer nobara, it’s so snappy and fast, everything just feels better than windows, and it’s way more customizable. But there is definitely a higher learning curve and some small weird glitches you have to deal with so I wouldn’t recommend it to someone without intermediate knowledge
Haven’t gotten there every work day I am mentally exhausted 😩
Like many things, it could be incredible but in our modern society I fear it would be abused and misused due to greed and poor regulation
Used to have this reoccurring nightmare about once a year where my parents had to put me through this “rite of passage” where they would lock me in a cabin for like a week. At night a beast or entity? that looked dog like, but bigger, made of just muscles with sharp teeth would show up in the cabin and I’d have to survive.
The first time I was with an old man who saved me and showed me the ropes. The second time the old man refused to help me but was there to help me and give me hints. The third time it was just me and I had to make it all on my own. Really interesting series honestly.
I would prefer a record tbh.
Will he be alive? Lol
An end to capitalism. An end to companies destroying the world because of greed.
I think it should be supported for a decade and the open sourced so that it can be archived and maintained by those who care.
Yeah I’ve definitely wanted to get into those sectors as well, but I don’t really know how to get my foot in the door or where to look, plus at least for my local government the pay is abysmal, any tips you have I would appreciate!
Capitalism and the corporate environment have really sapped my enthusiasm for software development.
Corporate development makes me feel like SpongeBob in that one beach episode.
I often feel like I’m doing the devil’s bidding, only to be paid so I don’t starve, and then they’ll throw me to the wayside when I’m no longer “useful”. Makes me not want to learn, why should I? It doesn’t give me job security, or better hire ability.
I sure hope mastadon turns out better. We need a strong voice advocating for the fediverse.
All I’m saying is generally when those in big tech establish a non profit, it’s for the wrong reasons, or it eventually becomes the wrong reasons. Look at open AI. They had a non profit and and profit side. The non profit side essentially controlled with the for profit side did, then when they ousted the CEO for doing things that were clearly in the interest of profit over the betterment of society, the CEO had set it up so that without him the open AI ship began to sink. Then those on the board that were against him were ousted from the board. It was a hostile takeover.
I’m not saying that’s going to happen with mastadon, I’m just saying they have some key players that are investors and/or long time workers in big tech and it puts a bad taste in my mouth.
Welp, don’t like that. US nonprofit is a huge misnomer. For the most part they’re used by the wealthy to create businesses that don’t need to pay taxes.
Edit: Not sure why I’m getting mass downvotes. The non profit system in America is where the wealthy go to create tax free income. The CEOs of non profits still get huge salaries. Just seems out of line with the vision of a true non profit IMO. That’s why I call it a misnomer. Non profits are almost never set up to do what they actually say they are trying to do. They’re often just created to get public favor and money laundering.
Idk, I think it’s more proactive and more customizable
