Sinkit for Reddit does the job on iPhones. It isn’t Apollo, but it makes the web interface usable.

I’m not talking about interactions between instances, I’m talking about Google and Bing indexing Mastadon. That’s who we should be using for search.

No, you are disappointed that Mastadon doesn’t have the same feature set as Twitter. The fact that you can search off instance at all is impressive. What you are asking for is like saying you should find GM cars in Ford’s search bar. Each instance is its own website. Search engines are designed to do what you want, and as Mastadon grows in popularity, it’s search results will become more prominent.

If you go to that website directly without logging in, do you see the posts? It is entirely possible that there are no posts there - sports communities aren’t getting a lot of non-bot traffic.

If there are posts, how old are they? If you are sorting by top, you won’t see any posts that were posted outside your selected time frame.

If neither of those are the issue, I’d blame Lemmy.world. They have cloudflare rules that block other instances without listing them as defederated. It is possible they’ve moved to a whitelist or some other trust based model that blocks new instances by default.

This is a side effect of them having been under a near constant DDOS and other cyberattacks, and so is definitely defensible, however it ultimately hurt the UX for me to the point that I just moved to a different instance.

That’s how they pay for Android. Just because you don’t pay a royalty doesn’t mean the software is free. (Even if it is libre)

• The web is unsafe by default
• Email is unsafe by default

In all three cases, your safety is determined by the home you choose, and who/what you choose to interact with.

Aside from inflation and limited benefit of upgrading, subscriptions for every little thing are depleting discretionary income.

It looks like federation issues. Lemmy.world is under semi-constant DDOS attacks, and between that and the mitigations that LW are putting in place, the entire instance is not reliable.

In general, I think communities (or groups of related communities) should maintain their own instances to protect from some of the issues prominent with user-focused instances.

I really like photon. It is very multi-alt friendly, and I can run my own instance of it locally.

Agree. I had a bot account banned, and despite the requirement that bot accounts have contact info, there was no attempt made to contact me. Regardless of whether or not the ban is justified, courtesy does not seem to be a priority for them.

2. It depends on the time of day. Certain things are more popular at certain times of day in different time zones.
