I used to get it why people install chrome. It had a specific look and feel. It’s no more, all browsers (except some startups making up the rules) look the same. Its a full page window with tabs on the top. Vanilla FF looks the same.

I’m in and out with linux for the last few years. It really boils down what do you want to do on your PC. If you are into online gaming or you need some specialized software for your work you are pretty much better stay on windows. However for general use its awsome. I have replaced many of my software even on windows to foss tools. There is a small learning curve and you will certainly need the terminal in the beginning but overall not terrible. For me it was a pleasant experience seeing mostly everything works without effort. The two most popular desktops (KDE and Gnome) are fairly polished and you question a lot of things in windows after using them. In general using linux a bit gives you a new perspective on how to use a PC.

This is only true for webservers. If you check all the servers in the world windows server is leading. There are industries that work with windows mostly like factories, banking, any office business in the world.

This way you will have a public ip and you dont need to mess with tunnel services. A vps with public ip is about 10 bucks a month.

DIY is like that. If you look up how to make a birdhouse they will tell you you need a saw, a hammer, nails, drill, paintbrush and something to measure with. Having a 3d printer and a soldering iron nowadays is pretty low entry, you can get into it cheaper that buying the saw, hammer and drill for the birdhouse. You don’t have to buy the bambulab printer and the weller / hakko iron. You can print this case on an ender 3 you found in the dumpster. Or pay 10 bucks for someone and they will print it for you. Windows -at this point- is free to use at least for personal reasons and there are zero consequences if you don’t activate your copy. They used to give you deadline in the XP/Vista era to activate your copy but not anymore. All you get is a watermark in the corner that either bothers you or not. They are as well very sloppy with closing activation methods, they could just close a new gate every patch Tuesday but they don’t do it. It is far far more important to them that everyone is using windows and there is a high chance based on last week’s news that there will be a subscription “premium” version like in any app that removes ads and enables AI features.

I walk next door. I like that its close by and I can spend my lunchtime laying on my couch. I hate its close by so I’m practically always working. I would also want to listen podcasts during commute but all of them are too long for my commute. Overall I recommend living close to work. (it’s my own business, I’m not employee)

I’m blaming companies making a windows and linux version of a software while the linux version is wastly inferior, full of bugs and unstable. I do love the OS but the software experience sometimes ruining it.

Get a decent android device like the shield and install whatever you want on it. Fuck anything that is on tv os.

I have samsung phones and chromecast devices and never had issue casting. However I believe you need the google home app for it. If you install VLC that might have its own library in the package for casting as well the youtube app. Don’t forget most TVs have miracast so if you are using the screen share option with your TV that is not chromecast.
