No, that’s not what I meant at all. I’m saying that there are equally talented artists as the really big, well known ones and the reasons they weren’t as big is possibly down to not being in the right place at the right time.

In hindsight possibly. I’m only old enough to comment on Michael Jackson and Madonna but at the time their music wasn’t that unique. Michael Jackson absolutely pushed the boundaries with his music videos. Madonna played up to controversy. That’s how they built their audiences.

You could ask this question about any popular artist for the last 70 years, probably longer, why The Beatles, why Elvis Presley, why Michael Jackson, why Madonna?

Yeah, but people who bring these things up act like everyone needs these things to get their day to day work done. Like everyone works in an architect office, industrial design firm or print marketing agency.

In the grand scheme of things the people who NEED to run Photoshop or CAD programs are edge cases.

The real reason people need windows for work is non-technical corporate and government IT departments. Windows management software (eg. Exchange) is too deeply embedded in the organisation and it is too time consuming and expensive to remove.

I’m just pointing out the general tech ignorance in the world. There are generally people who think they need to go through Google to go to any other web page on the internet.

Most people still Google “Facebook” to login to Facebook.

The general public won’t start using Linux until the computer they buy from their local big box store has it installed by default. Which for a brief moment nearly happened with netbooks.

As someone who has been down the rabbit hole, I was running Gentoo with linux-libre with my use flags all set up to install only what my machine and set up needed. This is the correct answer.

I don’t know if that’s visible to mods, but it’s certainly visible to the user who is being abused. StillIRise1963@mastodon.world cops A LOT of abuse.

No I mean instances like mastodon.world who do ok moderating their own users, but are very poor at moderating the instances that federate with them. So any minority users who joins mastodon.world can still be (and is, I’ve seen it) subject to the worst bigotry on the fediverse.

Depends on the instance. Some have the BlueSky response. Some have the Xitter response.
