Guess it is too hard to pick a single scene from “Grave of the Fireflies”? That movie is basically an emotional gut punch from start to finish.

golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your method of enjoying (or at least tolerating) physical exercise?7·2 months agoIn a similar fashion I enjoy listening to podcasts while running. I find music to in a way get filtered out by my brain after a while whereas podcasts keep me engaged. Inversely I can’t really focus on podcasts in the gym where I am switching up exercises.
Over time I’ve also optimized my listening experience by getting a pair of bone conducting headphones and a watch that can store and playback podcasts, so I don’t have to carry around my phone on runs.

And even if I’d use the phone without case Google’s bar shaped design still allows the phone to lay stable on a surface without wobble, just at a slight angle instead of flat. Which I guess would be an issue with other designs.

TIL, thanks for letting me know!
Lemmynsfw.com is quite large and purely dedicated to NSFW content.
Yes, it does make a difference, but like with many other things you should not fall into the trap of decision making paralysis.
Your current instance lemmy.world is the largest and perfectly adequate for the majority. It also costs nothing to make accounts on other instances and is done in less time than it takes to decide between them.
That said some reasons to choose one instance over another:
Federation with other instances
Some instances choose not to federate with others. Common reasons being political ideology or NSFW/piracy/violent content. Others might be more liberal and leave it up to their users to block whatever within their own apps. As someone already mentioned world seems to have defederated dbzer0 the piracy focused instance. Some political instances that often also get defederated are the far left ones like hexbear and Lemmy grad (seems like those are defederated by lemmy.world as well).
Server location and performance
Especially country focused instances like lemmy.ca or feddit.uk will have their servers in their own countries. You can of course access them from anywhere, but a European user might have a better time choosing an instance with servers located in Europe, while someone in America might have lower latency with one located there.
Alternate frontends
If you are accessing Lemmy through a browser rather than an app, you might enjoy alternate frontends that change the design. Your current one lemmy.world for example offers 4 different designs that can also be found in the sidebar alexandrite, photon, voyager mobile and one looking like old.reddit.
General ideology of the instance
Your choice of instance might also tell others something about you. If you choose a country specific instance people seeing your profile name might assume you come from there, if you choose one with a particular political view people will probably assume you hold similar views. Same goes for other instances that are related to things like sexuality or hobbies.

That’s pretty much me aswell, besides that I didn’t even spend energy to try and learn others. Simple docker compose, simple ui and easy way to add services.
I am sure there are alternatives that allow for more elaborate setups and fancier things. But for the low effort I put into it, I got a page with some nice buttons with appropriate icons that scales to whatever screen size it’s displayed on. Only additional thing I did was enabled to show some basic info to see if e.g. SABnzbd is downloading something, which was also super easy.
golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you had to teach a subject in school, what would it be and why?2·6 months agoExisting one or on a topic of my choice?
If I had to teach an existing one it would probably be sport, since as a reasonably fit person with a decent understanding on how to train in a healthy way it would probably be the one where I could come closest to providing a similar level to a real teacher. Otherwise maybe sociology? Think I could do a decent job there aswell.
If I could make my own it would probably be personal finance. Because I think here in Germany education on this topic is basically non existent. And there is so much money wasted on bad financial products and wrong decisions, that giving everyone some basic lessons would have a huge positive effect.

golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should Ukraine build the bomb? How would you feel if they did?2·8 months agoThanks for adding another source with some more context
golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should Ukraine build the bomb? How would you feel if they did?1·8 months agoThe issue is that as someone already mentioned i doubt something like that was ever truly on the table.
I think you can’t give assurances like that in a vacuum. If a nation e.g. the US would grant them, they’d only do so while simultaniously building up a physical presence in the territory and possibly also do deeper integrations military wise. You wouldn’t give such strong assurances while weakening your own ability to act on them.
For Russia that would have never been acceptable.
golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should Ukraine build the bomb? How would you feel if they did?363·8 months agoSince I see this claim constantly: where in the Budapest memorandum did they promise protection?
Looking at the Wikipedia summary nowhere does anyone give security assurances similar to NATO article 5 or the even stronger worded mutual defense clause article 42 TEU of the EU. The closest it comes to is in the fourth point, but that is only in the case of nuclear weapons being used. Which obviously hasn’t happened yet. Beyond that it is just a promise not to attack, which Russia has broken, but every other singator has kept. And as far as I can see it does not contain anything that compells others to act on someone else’s breach.

Which isn’t necessarily mutually exclusive. I was under the impression that the problems have more to do with high workloads and work environments that are chronically understaffed, not necessarily because of low salaries. Not claiming that all nurses are payed well, but it seems like that at least in the US there is a somewhat reasonable path to making good money (assuming you are willing to switch jobs and maybe continue to get sought after qualifications along the way).
golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What will be this generation's "If you want a good job just go to college!" career advice?6·8 months agoThat makes sense. I can definitely see consulting work paying top dollar in many different professions.
But that seems to me like she has carved out a lucrative niche for herself, which wouldn’t scale as advice for a larger number of people. Whereas with the other professions you can probably make good money even just doing more “regular” work.
golli@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What will be this generation's "If you want a good job just go to college!" career advice?131·8 months agoPhysical therapists, nurses and people that went into trades I can see making good money, but social workers I am kind of surprised to hear. I thought those were for the most part not paid as well compared to how taxing their jobs can be.
Imo this year had a pretty good lineup for TV shows. So far we’ve had severance s2, Andor s2, the pitt, adolescence and the rehersal. All outstanding television imo. Murderbot is decent, but the 20-25min episodes per week are just way to short.
