Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is the US currently in a recession or entering one?
3·11 days agoWhen you say it like that and I think of my generation and younger that is stuck renting and student loans… maybe I don’t actually own much of anything and if this pattern continues for a long time I could lose everything? I wonder how many more are like me in the same boat. But yeah, for now, it’s not that severe. Thanks for the perspective and help.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is the US currently in a recession or entering one?
71·12 days agoPeople around me have been saying it feels like the start of a depression, not just recession. Are those different?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Americans, what do typically have for breakfast?
2·24 days agoI’ll make a latte and snack on some nuts sometimes. Wife has avocado toast or two eggs

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there anything you're into that no one or basically nobody is into?
1·1 month agoPizza Hut in my hometown is still going. Do you go to operating Pizza Hut restaurants too?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•More for folks from walkable environments, my question is: would you walk an hour and 15 minutes to go to say, the library?
3·1 month agoIf I had no responsibilities for the day I would walk that but if I had anything else it would add up too much
Yes, you can. You can share an album and collaboratively each add to it or you can share the entire library and take photos directly out of theirs and add to a new album. So I believe you can accomplish what you want. Just tested it with my wife and I’s accounts.
Immich is great. The iPhone app is not trustworthy with syncing photos and always freezes. It will get there eventually, if you have the patience for crashes on the iOS app. In fact, for the last week the app just hangs on open, which usually means I need to re-install the app and all that. I have a large library of over 60k photos/videos and an older phone, which doesn’t help. Despite these issues, it’s still great. Every other feature works flawlessly. I haven’t tried this new update but I am hopeful and glad they are pushing forward with cleaning up syncing!

2·2 months agoHave fun picking through the many options, haha. I just figured out Ghost (open source blogging platform) but it can easily be edited with static pages. It is basic but I am okay with the functionalities and ease of use

1·2 months agoDo you think “alright kids, meeting is officially over. Go home or call your parents. If anyone wants to stay we will be hanging out and teaching server stuff at ____ ‘s house for an hour or two.” Gets around this?
I hope the children of the future

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I've got a road trip planned. It'll be about 2800 mi, 4500 km. I think I'm prepared but sure I'm overlooking things. I'd love to hear your tips and recommendations; your holy grails!
2·2 months agoPeople are trying to give advice! You may be surprised if you let your brain get bored and watch the scenery. Take in the environment and people around you. May be good for the grieving process. You only live once! The games will be there when you are back in half a month. My advice is like the others, focus on healthy snacks and hydration. Hanger can easily sour moods in a long journey! Good luck out there

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some methods of distributed civil disobedience for Americans?
6·2 months agoSame. Making less but similarly the consumerism has all but died in our young family. Just healthcare and food for the most part.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some methods of distributed civil disobedience for Americans?
25·2 months agoThe fact that top comments on Lemmy, a sophisticated platform, still don’t provide much leverage is a little worrying. I hope we can find a collective way to raise awareness in a news blind world. Shows how far the system has worked to block out civil protest moving markers anymore. My hope is that organized non-violent marches and banners becomes so prevalent that it’s impossible to ignore. Like how MAGA got its image annoyingly all over rural America.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?
1·2 months agoHad the same experience in Ann Arbor, MI. The next day I learned they have a squirrel feeding club and a kid walked around in the morning with granola bars throwing them out to a circle of 20 chubby squirrels

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?
1·2 months agoI wonder where you visited! Grey squirrels are rare where I’m from in the US, 90% brown in midwest

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What form of entertainment, movie, music, tv, video game etc that you were excited about only after it came out did you realize it was trash?
3·3 months agoYep. Leading up there were red flags but, like you said, so many green flags as well. What a let-down! Helped nerds brace for impact when Star Wars came back though

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would wine from back in ancient times and civilizations have been dogshit compared to a basic marketable wine produced by modern viniculture?
10·4 months agoI know there was a more common everyday wine with pretty low alcohol content and not much to any sweetness. Alcohol was a good way to ensure clean drinking water and naturally keeps out a lot of bad bacteria. That’s why drinking wine is way more common in the Bible AFAIK
https://www.amazon.com/ELUTENG-Enclosure-Protocol-Adapter-External/dp/B08H22BV1N There are dozens like this in all sorts of tech stores. Definitely bigger than a usb driver but not THAT much bigger
It seems to be a huge lottery. I’ve only had one or two fail but that was like 2008. Supposedly there is some sort of data rot or failure rate but I’ve never experienced it. Seems highly random
