Same here on the resistance to pain meds. I had a such a terrible experience with surgery. Once I woke up I was in such agony but I was also tripping hard from the dilaudid and left over anesthesia that I was unable to communicate effectively. It has to do with balancing home life with work on a rotating shift. Getting out of work at 5pm allows time with the family in the evening.
