hi. banner-deep space fornax cluster, webb stuff i think.
post has it’s own count, this was about a user’s vote history in their profile
which aren’t? btw, this post has 7, now 8.
array votes[post_id, vote]; // for storing in user profile not public but can be hashed if you don’t trust your dba
seems trivial to check for a login/subscribed etc. then increment up//down votes. why link each vote to an account in public? maybe for mods an account(s) to be banned for botting votes?
not making money. make windows a gui on top of linux. like osX. silly microsoft
reminds me of the last time I had to remember that dir/copy/move with backslashes. dad’s insurance ‘software’. always amazed me how computer users get stuck in a way of doing things. print mail
nice to have choices. new users are better off with a polished install so they can get back to scrolling. takes work to do some desktops. ran a minimal thing for years at work. forget the name.
it really is comforting to know you can do 99% of stuff you want with PCs without a license from Microsoft. FOSS has its own headaches but at least you don’t have to wade through a PR swamp to fix stupid bugs

replaced a $20,000 cd rack with 15 cd drives + windows os for network sharing, with a desktop PC running redhat(bureaucracy wanted a support contract). Ripped all their cds w/ dd bash script I wrote for automating add/delete cds for the non-cli types.

was 30 something about then invading a windows-centric IT dept. they feared linux as it replaced all their basic services. email, file servers, DB2 servers, online courseware…
being on the hook for any license fees cuts into yacht decor. linux sets them free except required source releases. everyone benefits

replace ‘I purchased …’ with ‘I bought …’. Just something about the p word grates my nerves… Suspect it’s something like using the word ‘moist’ for some people. probably some forgotten trauma over something I bought.
