The biggest thing here is the impact to education. Being in EdTechbive lost a lot of respect for Google as they’ve mercilessly killed valuable projects that we have all been happy to pay for, but they quickly drop it like an uninterested child with a new toy.

Supervised mode gives you basically all the cool options post IOS 12. That said, it’s been about 4 years since I’ve done any of that registration stuff and I know it changed a lot during the pandemic. So it could be easier now.

Configurator if you have a MacOS device already and want the OG. Plus it does allow for device supervision. Although you may have to register as an enterprise system for that. That’s really going to be the key thing here as last time I recall signing my org up for MDM we had to provide tax documents.

Apple uses JAMF, and their prices are so low and it’s so easy that for strictly Apple devices I’d go that route. I do believe there is an on prem version of Jamf as well, but you still pay yearly for it.

There’s also Hexcloud, whatever VMware is calling there’s now, and technically sccm can do device MDM.

Main benefits come from supervised mode. On iPads you can enable multi user support with sign in. You can remove access to messaging or other apps, but beyond that the differences between MDM and parental locks aren’t as wide.

My homie (don’t actually know him) Road guy Rob makes some of the BEST videos on roads and the engineering of traffic systems and infrastructure. His content is insanely good and wayyyyy better than any small YouTuber should be.

The efficiency trade off of a chest freezer is often broken by people’s inability to remember what’s in it. If you can’t reach the stuff at the bottom then it all goes bad. This is why an upright most likely makes more sense, even though it’s less efficient. You end up wasting as much food simply from forgetting what’s in there.

We have tons of shelters in the US too. Talk to any homeless person though and they’ll tell you they don’t use the shelter because it either: forces them to not use drugs, splits up a family, has lots of sexual assaults going on, or has more health related problems than it’s worth.

My first “smart watch” was a pebble and I still think it was the best. People want everything to do everything these days rather than pebble which did watch stuff well and for days without charging, while simply showing you phone notifications. It wasn’t complex, didn’t offer a ton of extras, but it just worked well.

Metro UI was and still is a sexy AF interface. The widget tiles had a motion to them that was delicate and beautiful. It was just such a beautiful OS. I’ve kept most of the phones I’ve ever owned because I like them and of the 10 or so I’ve done through over the last 13 years especially my two favorites are my windows phones an HTC 8x and a Nokia Lumia 1020.

Windows Phone and webOS were amazing. Not just for their time, but even today. Major advancements in mobile OS’ came from WebOS like multi window task managing and my favorite feature of all came from Windows Phone. The most perfect on screen keyboard man has ever made. Specifically with audio. It had click sounds that were specific to a region of the keyboard and it was a low tone that was audibly pleasing. I can assure you none of those things is true.

First off, by pushing out OF creators all it did was make it so that an underground network was created on there instead. So the person you were seeing would have no mention of OF but would be a bot account meant to spam you with messages. It also created an issue where we saw so much damn editing of pictures and people posting others content to get around the rules. Hell, half of the posts were basically OF creators who made a second GW dedicated account that didn’t mention it but was designed to funnel views to their main.

Also, in the world of posting online it all becomes advertising. Even if not for money it’s all about putting yourself out there and getting validation, which requires people interacting with your post, which requires you to effectively advertise by posting certain content, doing things at certain times and coming up with fun titles. If you didn’t want advertising and a fair system to see all people then either having one GW account that posts only the content of the sub, or two having a system where everyone posts with the same title. The metrics show dumb titles work and it’s why if you scroll GW for any length of time you’ll notice that the same rehashed titles get used over and over.

Lastly, the people with OF accounts are also regular people, and often just trying to get off as well.

r/Gonewild has specific rules about no OF posters. To the point that even if your post doesn’t mention OF, but you have one linked in your profile you get banned.

It made GW worse. Not just because OF creators have better, higher quality content that fits that sub, but also because as I pointed out once to them it was a dumb idea to block people who in most cases of OF creators don’t even monetize, or only do custom content. Otherwise the account is free to follow. Which is an important differentiation since diversifying where you post and where people can find you is a major thing.
