New Belgium is amazing.
1554 is one of my favorites, and I introduced my friend to the Voodoo ranger series and that’s how he left the land of domestic beers.
Thank you for your service. 🫡

Ooooh I want to get into home brewing! I joined the Lemmy community a few weeks ago.
I moved the Chicago for the entertainment industry, and I was pleasantly surprised by the beer here. I would say the difference between PNW and Midwest beers are that PNW likes to go big and bold- high ABV and IBUs. The Midwest likes to make beers that you can drink a lot of (Alagash White is a good one)
There should be a beer equivalent to the movie “Bottle Shock”
75% in fact!
Full disclosure, I’m a Seattle born beer enjoyed so I mainly drink microbrews, or what some folks have told me is “fancy beer”.
My parents moved to the PNW from California in the 80s, and they were amazed at the sheer amount of options. Back then it really was just Bud, Coors, and PBR, but even back then the microbrew scene was budding in Portland and Seattle. My dad would tell me how when they would go back to visit old friends in California, it was either amazing wine of shit beer. People’s minds were blown when they would bring some stuff down from up north to the party.
I think this brings up another good point- some states do MUCH better than others. From what I’ve seen, the best beers come from the West Coast (especially the Northwest), the Mountain West, Midwest, and Northeast.
Someone here said they hated the beers in Texas and yea, like don’t expect a great authentic taco scene in North Dakota. The worst beer I’ve ever had was from Florida.
In multi-fediverse theory, there are infinite fediverses where any and every possibility of fediverse exists.
I think the point was to have it as a mental exercise. Personally I’d be fine with it. My main issue with China is the entire genocidal surveillance ethnostate with little to no civil liberties and full restricted speech. If it opened up to allow criticism of the government, protests, protection of LGBTQ folks and legal marriage, I’d be more on board.
But yes, that’s not the China we see today and likely never going to see in our lifetimes.
I said
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Don’t do it!” He said, “Nobody loves me.” I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”
He said, “Yes.” I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?” He said, “A Christian.” I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, “Me, too! What franchise?” He said, “Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?” He said, “Northern Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?”
He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region.” I said, “Me, too!”
Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.” I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over

Mine is kinda stupid- self employed musician taking two and a half weeks off to be home for Christmas, nye, and my mom’s birthday. November was an excellent month for me, but December was slightly sub par. I’m not gonna starve when I get back, but I’m going to need to hustle like mad.
If everyone’s political beliefs were something you could see, I actually think it would create more peace. How many people go along with a more extreme take only because they are afraid to be ostracized from their community? Odds are folks would look around and see that the world is more shades of gray than what social media tries to mold us into.
I had someone tell me I was brainwashed because I have a degree in political science. I was taken aback, but then decided to ask myself if I was. I mean, what’s the difference between being educated and being brainwashed? Is it the conclusion that you come to? Is it some physically measurable thing?
Some good questions to ask is “is the information I’m getting geared to make me feel a certain way or to inform me about something?” “Am I learning in a setting where I am afraid that to have a dissenting opinion would get me kicked out of my community?” “Are certain ideas immediately ruled out as false without further discussion?”
At least in my degree, I felt that there were a plethora of opinions in my classroom discussions, and when we approached different lenses, we made sure to have a thorough understanding of them, as best we could. I can think of only one philosophy that an international relations teacher ruled off outright, and that was “ancient hatreds theory”. Even then we spent several classes taking it apart and why it is a poor tool to view conflicts.
That said, I would say I was brainwashed after college when I spent more time on Facebook, reddit, and Instagram. With the perpetual rage machine at my fingertips, I was afraid that if I disagreed I would be flamed and cancelled from groups that I loved. I am very wary of getting information from the socials since things are so over simplified and there is little to no welcomed critical discussion. It’s just a yelling pit with people further entrenched in their beliefs.
The joyful wonder and whimsey that lived in my soul and twinkle that shone through my eyes, or at least I think it was there. It’s now just a faint memory of a memory, something that I yearn for but unsure if I ever even tasted it.

Nope, the edit was shaming everyone for their dirty, dirty minds. Right to the gutter they go. It says right there where I write edit
Btw this post, and thread, is filled with silly geese
There is a 👏 time 👏 and 👏 place 👏
The current time is 1946 and the place is Nuremberg. I’m sorry that we didn’t show Goebbels where the clit was back then, WE HAD PRIORITIES.
A) thank you for completing the assignment
B) man that’s rough. That “leaving the cave” moment is something I think (hope) most everyone has sometime in their 20s. It sucks because it hurts, it’s ugly, and at the very least puts strain on our most important relationships. Sometimes it breaks the relationship and we need to find new ones but that is absolutely painful too.
I hope in your introspection you’ve seen the ways you’ve grown and recognize where the boundaries are to forgive yourself and others, and know what ties were better off cut.
I’ve been in similar situations and honestly it’s made me more empathetic and patient for anyone I see who seems to be off the path of being empathetic and patient. I hope when you run into someone who is in your footsteps that you treat them how you wish you were treated. ❤️
Obviously it was about the Milgram experiments and until you read past the title you should keep taking your Adderall 😤
Going out on a limb and saying “Midwesterner spotted”
Chicagoan checking in- I love that beer
