  • I often see people post about things like that in my neighbourhood network.

Ask around in your neighborhood and on next door or a similar online community. Especially in cities there are lots of people around who love dogs, but can’t have one of their own. Some of them might be happy to spend some time with your dog during the day.

I actually did that for a while with a neighboring cat. Instead of hanging at home, I would just hang at their palce for a couple of hours in the afternoon to keep the cat company. This wasn’t pet sitting, just spending quality time with a pet that would otherwise be alone for the whole day.

  • I’m not American, but in my culture it is not that deep rooted, that you have to care for your parents.
Maybe because we have a public pension system. But when the pension is not enough and a person has to relay on social security authorities will check the income of all direct relatives. Depending on your income you are obligated to support your kids and parents.

It is always a slur, even directed to someone mentally healthy, because it reinforces ableist and hateful stereotypes.

The same way calling men and boys female slurs like bitch or pussy is mysogonistic and puts women down.

You don’t call a person a “retard” in a complimentary way. You compare them to a mentally disabled person to convey how dumb or stupid they are. Putting other people down at the same time.
