De-escalation is easy: Russia can get the fuck out of Ukraine. All of it.

Not unless a random search takes me there for a non-answer to my obscure question.
From government systems, yes.
It doesn’t. (Connect for Lemmy is still a great app though.)
So… your own post is vulgar? I would agree with that.
Did you forget to switch to an alt account or something?
I am in it mostly for functional prints, but I couldn’t help myself and had to do some fun stuff when I started learning about resin and such. The details are amazing.
It’s how the Disney channel operates. They hook kids young with teen oriented sitcoms and then the viewers get to “grow up” with their favorite actors over the course of years.
My hobbies could asphyxiate or poison your hobbies.
(I just started my distillation process today to recover and purifify isopropyl alcohol from my 3D resin prints, if you were curious.)
I have been thinking about it and I am not sure if Lemmy is big enough to need a separation between IAMA and AMA. I can’t remember if Reddit had those separated or not but regardless, it was a huge community.
I didn’t really mean to give the impression that I wanted to bootstrap that community. It would probably do more harm than good by trying to fracture a community that is not in need of fracturing.
Still, it’s worth some open discussion.
And a new post.
Yeah. Modern phones are awesome if you need to use every feature to its fullest. I love that I have the opinions to access my accelerometer or GPS independently. Since I do a bit of CAD work, having a high quality camera is awesome for photogrammetry. But see, there is a caveat: It’s the right tool for me and worth my $1K to have an up-to-date device that has a reasonable bit of compute.
Otherwise, nah. I just got a resin 3D printer that only has a USB connector. No cloud, no wifi, no bullshit. It does its one job well and that is all I care about.
It sucks that most people are basically trained from birth that “more is better” or “brand new is better”. It took me years to de-program myself from that shit.
It’s just the first example I could think of that involved a wearhouse, lots of machines that need to be tinkered with that use some kind of centralized management.
Essentially, it’s tablet that fits in your back pocket. It would be useful to just tuck away quickly in a pocket to quickly fix a bit of filament or something.
Folding phones are still a status symbol of some kind and the actual utility of a large phone screen is lost on most owners. Once most of the R&D cost is paid off and the tech starts to plateau, it might get cheaper?
I see foldable screens as a work device. Sure, a portable movie theater would be a good perk, but it would absolutely rock as a commercial all-in-one console for a 3D printer farm or something. If there is enough commercial value in a device like that, $2k could be a bargain.
I don’t hate on it and do not advocate for or against it. You do you. Boost is simply one of many options and other options may be free and ad-less.
Because of the nature of ad platforms and ad delivery, various metrics about your activity is also sent to third parties. It’s something to be aware of, at least.
I am saying that if an app is good enough, I’ll donate or buy it. For now, I am a top contributor to Connect. Yay? Personally, I think the ad route is trashy, but others don’t seem to mind unless they get blasted in the face by Troof Social.
That is the reason to donate to the devs of free apps when possible.
Connect is simple and ad free as well. I’ve been using it since I joined Lemmy as it was the closest I could find to RIF.
Regardless, there are plenty of options out there.
Comment #2. So I played around a bit and got something muffled and a bit wobbly. It was basically mix of cropping out highs/mid-highs and adding various depth effects, mild hiss and some compression with actual water sounds that are playing super quiet. After all that mess, I EQ that again to get rid of any clipping or popping.
It’s still not perfect but might be on the right track. I am in a road trip at the moment but I just randomized a piano and started slapping fx together. The fx are completely blown out on my phone speakers, but decent enough with headphones.

Here is what I am working with so far. You can see the fx chain in the right side. EQ -> Luxverb for depth -> Basic delay and reverb -> EQ #2 -> flange for a bit of hiss. (Track 5 hits the limiter on Track 1 for a bit of water-like wobble.) The first EQ low pass is purposely high. It creates a bit of distortion that kinda works.
I would do this with some creative EQ filtering on the primary audio track (mid-low pass randomized filters) and overlaying some water-like sounds. (I would stick a microphone underwater for those sounds.)
In theory-crafting, convolvers are primarily used for reverb, but I am wondering if a water sound track could be used instead of a typical impulse recording… Dunno. I have the tools for all of that, so it would be interesting for me to try that tonight, actually. (I am new to convolvers, so it may not be possible at all.)
I know that is abused for lots of crap autogenerated YouTube videos.
