I’m on vacation!

I took 2 weeks off from my high pressure corporate job and my laptop isnt with me. This week I’m spending time with my family out in the woods, and next week I fly home to a lovely staycation. I haven’t had more than a long weekend since Christmas so this is nice.

Same on Witcher III. I’m the target audience of that game - I love RPGs of all kinds, have played all the classic series like TES, Baldurs Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale, Dragon Age, you name it. I even play ttrpgs multiple times a week.

I wanted to like Witcher III so bad that I forced myself all the way through the game to an optimal ending. But I just never started enjoying it. The world just feels… Flat. Fake. You do exactly what CD Projekt Red envisions or you hit a stone wall of empty game world.

Despite the skill trees and inventory and all of it, it just doesn’t feel like an RPG at all. It feels like a Disney ride on rails.

You should give a shit, because it means now the library has to waste its money cleaning it, instead of funding programs or new books. Libraries losing funding makes the world worse. These people made the world worse.

Board games. Find people who play board, card or roleplaying games. Sign up to an open group to play. Its an extremely social hobby with no pressure - you’re just there to play, and if some joking around and friendship happens, its a great bonus.

I bought 2.5 years ago so its still pretty fresh. It was very scary but I knew it was the right lifestyle choice for me. I had lived in my city for 5 years at the time and felt pretty confident (still do) that I want to stay local long term. Just like in all American cities, rents were rising fast.

It felt like I was overpaying at the time because of how much housing prices had risen the 5 years before, but a few months after closing I felt relieved and validated when interest rates jumped to 6%.

The only thing I’ve found them actually useful for is generating random lists for my D&D games.

When it comes down to needing some mundane descriptions, its great having an LLM brainstorm for you. “Give me 10 examples of weird things I might see in jars in a witch’s hut.” This works well because you can just cut the 5 you don’t like and use the other 5 to brainstorm your final list.

All of the issues with Event Horizon are because of the studio screwing up the story. And the footage of the good version of the movie was lost on the cutting room floor, so we’ll never see it.

Its such a good premise and so well executed that its still good despite its story & pacing issues. One of the best moments of my life was showing it to my Warhammer 40k loving friend for the first time. It blew his mind.

Event Horizon is an awesome movie.
