I see that rogue Google Play Music icon there. Makes me sad they killed it.

rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•kamila 🌸🏳️⚧️: It seems like Google's renaming Nearby Share to... Quick Share, which is also the name for the Samsung's file sharing solution? uhhhhhEnglish6·2 years agoWas called Bump. And then Apple introduces it this year as if it’s some new thing.
I have no idea why sharing files between devices has to be so complicated. Bring the devices close together, get NFC connected, use P2P wifi to send the files. This is not that difficult.
How has that not been a feature from the beginning?
Google is so big that the right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing and they can’t even have a cohesive platform of features.

Way safer in those situations.
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Linux@lemmy.ml•How safe are my data if my hard drive isn't encrypted?5·2 years agoIs this for your home? If it is, you don’t really have to worry about someone stealing your desktop. If someone breaks into your home, they’re looking for quick cash and jewelry and TVs. They’re not going to bother stealing your server to dig through files for something usable.

If you don’t want to watch it, then don’t, but it really is a great podcast.

But I guess it’s better to have it and not need it.

rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•Why the Pixel 8's Face Unlock upgrade is a big dealEnglish9·2 years agoThe BEST place by far is on the back. With the Pixel 2, I could have the phone unlocked before I even take it out of my pocket because I could place my finger in the exact right spot.
It also served as a shortcut to pull down the notification shade.
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•Why the Pixel 8's Face Unlock upgrade is a big dealEnglish9·2 years agoThat’s a pretty unlikely scenario though. Someone would be better off just selling your phone at that point.
Because how is a thief going to get a perfect video of you to play to the camera?
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•I'm all aboard the Google Assistant with Bard hype train, and you should be too - Android CentralEnglish3·2 years agoBased on how full-in they’re going with Pixel and AI, it’ll most likely be a combination of #2 and #3.
They’ll abandon the current version for some other incompatible version, leaving everyone using the current version SOL.
Google can’t be trusted for long-term product and feature support.
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•The Response to Google's 7 Year Pixel Update Promise is Getting WeirdEnglish52·2 years agoWhat are you talking about? Apple should be lauded for at least having the phone tiers that they have. There’s choice for every type of buyer. The 15 pro vs pro max is 3x zoom and 5x zoom. That’s IT. You get the same features between each pro phone and get to choose the size that works for you.
Google has hamstrung the smaller phone with a worse screen, much worse camera system (video boost is locked to 8 Pro), no temperature sensor, slower wireless charging speeds, less RAM, gorilla glass Victus 1 vs 2, and an annoyingly glossy back glass.
I bought an 8 Pro for the camera system because I didn’t want to be locked out of the better ultra wide and telephoto, but I wish I could have gotten that in a smaller size.

Users should continue to demand that they support the more open standard.

rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•evleaks: Pixel 8 series and Watch 2 marketing materialEnglish1·2 years agoTheir colors this year are so boring.
And why is it that “pro” versions have to have even more boring colors. Last year’s sage green was great, but that blue is kind of an ugly shade, imo.
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•Google Podcasts to be shut down in favor of YouTube MusicEnglish2·2 years agoI didn’t think so at all. The interface was simpler than any other app I’ve used. You just select a podcast and play it and it would go through the podcast episodes the correct way (oldest to newest).
I loved it’s simplicity and I’m so mad at Google for killing it.
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•Google Podcasts to be shut down in favor of YouTube MusicEnglish2·2 years agoI absolutely feel the same way. I’m so pissed off at Google for this.
They’ve ruined my YouTube liked videos playlist because they stuck all my liked songs in there.
They keep pushing videos on me in YT Music.
They’re pushing TikTokification bullcrap instead of better radio algorithms.
And the recent player redesign with YouTube comments and the sliding options is just awful.
What ever happened to having one app that does one thing really well? Why do we have to have two apps that do everything? YT Music and YT do basically the same thing, but it just makes the YT Music experience worse.
rgb3x3@beehaw.orgto Android@lemdro.id•Google could give the Pixel 8 seven years of updatesEnglish8·2 years agoFor the rumored extra $200 price tag, it’s disappointing that they aren’t including the better gorilla glass Victus 2, Qi2 charging, UWB, and UFS 4.0 on the Pixel 8.
At least include the more durable glass, Qi2, and UWB. This is going to make the phone pretty out of date just by the spring. Especially because of the tendency for Pixels to get much worse over time.
I’m a forever Android fan, but I’m getting jealous of the quality and consistency of iPhones. I just wish I could find that kind of hardware quality in something other than Samsung (because I can’t stand their software).
As I’ve heard it, it’s much less of a problem when you’re looking at it straight on and out of bright sunlight. I think it was Honor that released a foldable last year that nearly eliminated it. So they’re close to minimizing it as much as they can
